I am hoping to get some info and opinions on a possible srx 700 purchase. I come from a xcr 600 which I never had a problem with and loved that sled. So ,the sled is a 2002 SRX 700 with 650 miles on in in excellent condition. The guy never rode it because he preferred his twins with electric start and reverse. Completely stock and kept under cover its whole life. I can pick it up for $2100. Is this a good deal? What should I look for when I go to pick it up? Is the dcs really a pain? Any other things I should be concerned with?
Thanks for you help guys.

grab it for that price. Here in Canada a guy is selling a 2002 for $4500.Grab it quick and then worry about things after.
If you don't buy it let one of us have a shot at it I'd really love to have a low mileage 02 to add to the stable.

If it was parked for a few years you want to look for shed gremlins they will eat anything just ask Bluemonster1 LOL, just go over everything in the sled check the W arm in the suspension, wire rub through under the engine, make sure you run GOOD premium gas and DCS shouldn't be a problem, they weren't the best SRX made, they were all GREAT

i'd snag that up quick. that's a good deal for an 02 with that low mileage. look up powervalve cleaning + adjusting, and carb cleaning, and clutch cleaning on here. after you get caught up on the week worth of reading from those go to it.
welcome to the TY and srx family.
also shoot me your email and i'll send you the pdf service manual

Well Im suppose to pick it up Monday morning. I talked to him tonight again and he said the only things wrong with it is a cracked front bumper and a 4" scuff in the paint on the hood(supposedly from his kids riding it last winter). He says everything else is mint. Track has 144 picks and no tears in track. He does not have the Cert of origin, just current mass mass registration. I dont think this is of much concern with a sled this old though?? Overall it sounds like a good deal still. Im going to try and get it for 2k. We'll see.
Just a word of caution...I am always very suspicious of low mileage odometers on sleds as the speedos are very easy to disconnect or replace. Have a good look at the running boards, hand grips, + seat for worn paint, surface wear/tears ect. With that low of mileage the clutches, engine compartment ect should be pretty clean from grease, oil, + belt dust.
If you like the condition of the sled buy it as that is all that is really relevant but be cautious.
....Come on!... I sometimes easily put over 650 miles on my 02 in a weekend!!!

Find a Cat skid for it. I put a cat 144 on mine and another guy town put a 121 on his. Both work awsome. Definitley worth the time.

Coming out of an XCR you'll be disappointed in the big bump department but some changes to the skid (grab the extra-10 out of your XCR) and front susp. will get you pretty close. As Bob mentioned, sounds awful low in miles so look for other wear spots and expect to go through the exsisting skid replacing bushings/bearings/w-arm/other cracking/shocks.
IMO - the '02 is the best model year mainly due to DCS especially given unknown fuel quality on the trail.
At that price you could afford to upgrade the susp and still have cash left over. Maybe enough for another track.
The big benefit is you're starting with a world class powertrain so major engine mods aren't required to stay with the pack... unlike your old 600.
I came out of a white XCR600 when I bought my '01 SRX.

Just my opinion, which doesn't mean jack, but I wouldn't change out the skid (or anything else for that matter). I would keep it all stock original. You have a beautiful low mileage sled why start changing things out and reduece it's value right away?

I'm from MA too and I looked at this same sled. It's just past MT. Greylock right? The guy wanted 2,500 for it. I talked with him on the phone and he told me the sled was mint. I drove over an hour to look at it. It might of only had like 650 miles but they were hard miles. He told me his kid rode it most of the time. The front bumper was broken right off, the hood had a huge scuff on it. About the size of a softball, all the way down to the white plastic. The taillight was broken. It just was not taken care of at all. This guys definition of "MINT" was not the same as mine. Everything under the hood was oxidized. I ended up buying a 2001 SRX with 1400 miles for just over $1000, and it's in way better shape than the 650 mile sled.
Where are u looking for sleds/ craigslist , Ebay? I am looking for one as well and dont think I came across an '01 with 1000 miles in my search-was it advertised?MachZ1000 said:I'm from MA too and I looked at this same sled. It's just past MT. I called on this sled also. The guy told me that it only needed a front bumper. No comment about the scuff, no comment about the taillight, no comment about the oxidation. Guys like this really piss me off! His listing simply says "Mint Condition"! Total load of crap. So glad I didn't make the trip. I'm 3.5 hours away. I'm not even in the market but seeing it only had 650 miles, I assumed it to be a gem and would be a great collector.
I would stay clear. Sounds like this guy can't be trusted!

The 2002 SRX I looked at was advertised on Craigslist, it was located in Lanesboro MA. Don't waste your time with this sled. The 01 I bought is not mint it needs some work but the price was right. I found the best way to search is through www.searchtempest.com. This is a search of Craigslist but you can check the whole are around you. It saves a lot of time.
