im looking to purchase this sled..guy has it for sale w/only 1300 miles on it..immaculate condition.. mint.. only changes he made was add i believe 120 studs and added a rise to the handle. Im looking to see how the suspensions were in this machine? im not a mogul jumper, but im concerned because i had a 1996 vmax 2up and the suspension was awful... Im afraid how this suspension compares? is it a different setup then the older vmax sleds? is this a good trail sled?

its a decent sled all around. extremly fast and the suspension wasn't the greatest, but if the price is right, i'd go with it. the rear suspension is completly different than that of the vmax, so don't worry bout that.

i had two of these sleds, the biggest thing i seen with the suspension was the shock valving is stiff on the rebound. i re valved the front shocks and put on straight rate springs, much better over the small bumps but still able to handle large jumps or moguls. i also removed some rear shock valving and used the stock springs. you can also use the 02 viper updated shocks that were softer. see how the engine starts, if it starts and stalls it still might need the updated ignition relay. the 01's had this problem. a relay fixed it. they are a very well built sled, very dependable.

Can u explain what this relay is?

im am the least mechanicaly inclined person ever... how do i know if the relay is the updated one? and where and how do i change this? is it expensive? I do know he said last winter the yammy dealer synced the carbs, and ever since then it took the sled longer then normal to start up and would backfire the first start of the day, but my local mechanic said no panic, it probably is the choke too tight, or needs to be jetted alittle richer. but he said that is nothing to work on.. is this what your talking about?

if it starts and does not die as the headlights come on it should be ok. the system gives full electrical to the coils for starting and as the system switched on the head lights it would die. when it acts up you have to get the engine to rev up as it starts so it stays running(giving it throttle as you pull it over). when it gets real bad you will have a very hard time keeping it running. the back firing at start up might be part of it. call your dealer and ask them what it takes to change it. mine were both warr. so i did not do it my self. that is the only thing i ever had on the two we had. they are bullet proof.
