Did a search and came up with a lot of good info. I see a lot of guys are just using the reflective tape from heating ducts but knowbody really says how it holds up to the heat of pipes. So to my question - Im running cprs and installing a tour buddy. I want to put heat tape on the end closest to the pipes just as a safety measure. None of the foam an inch away from the pipes is melted but jut want to be sure. Does anyone have any first hand experience on how the reflective heating tape holds up? Cannot find any other products local. If i have to order i will but i thought i would see if anyone had any other thoughts or ideas!! CCC

i used that style of tape when i installed the benders on the mtn max in 01. somewhere it was recommended in the bender install sheet. i applied it to the foam attached to the hood and finally had to re-attach it last season. so figure roughly 8 seasons without issues. take into consideration this was a new sled and the underhood foam was clean, so that may have been a major contributing factor. if i remember, i put on about 3 or more layers.

Go to the Summit Racing or Jeg's website. The have the right material for this application. You want to use the high heat reflective insulation. It is an insulation layer which is metallized on one side, on the backside there is an adhesive layer. You can buy it in a variety of sheet sizes, not expensive at all. I used material to protect the palstic fairing on my sportbike from the heat of an aftermarket exhaust which comes close to the plastic. Works very well. This material is made to take the heat.

I bought a sheet of Helix heat shield. It came in a 18'' x 18'' sheet it is a adhesive backed ceramic cloth. It forms great and the adhesive once it stick it's not coming off. I'm going to be using this on my plastic around my pipes after i get them ceramic coated. Only issue it is a bit expensive I payed 16.00 for a sheet and I may need 3. Any local motorsports store can get it it is made by helix racing products.

Sounds exactly what i ended up finding at the auto parts store. But it was a 1 foot by 2. Good up to 2000 deg ambient temps. CCC
