trying to remove the arm from steering post to replace the tie-rod ends.Removed the pin and nut,but they just don't pop off.Used a puller on the rear one(#15) and it popped off.The front one (#16) can't get the puller on it and the threaded end points down instead as up on the otherone. How do you get it to release. They must be friction fitted in place...

so finally got #16 off the plate.Noticed the taper which jams the hole as you tighten the nut. That is why it was so tight, along with moisture over the years.Used PB on it and pry bar type screwdriver under the bolt applying pressure upward and taped with the hammmer against the plate and pop she went....nothing is easy, but Yamaha thought of everything, not a cheap way but a better way instead of just having bolt go through and butt up under. This way if ever a nut got undone, the end still wouldn't fall off....

When you install the new tie rod ends, put some antisieze coating on the tapered end. It will allow it to come apart much easier next time. Antisieze material works much better, longer lasting than grease.

ok,yes I have antiseize here,I will use it then..thanks
I use a pickle fork as gently as possible. This is the tool that is used to separate steering arms, ball joints etc, on cars and trucks. I have done a lot of automotive work, so I have them type of tools around. If you don't have one your local auto parts store might have a tool loan program. Go easy with it as you can damage the joint if you hit it too hard. Basically once you have the right size, just tap it with a hammer and it should pop free.
