I was about 10 miles from the new Haydays spot at 10:45am and it was bumper to bumper so I drove up to North Branch and there were two cops telling traffic that Haydays parking was full and to turn around. I thougt the whole point of this new location was to expand. I wasted money and time driving up there.... what a joke. AP

a big even like that its a good idea to get there a day ahead or 2 if you can get in. people come from all over to watch this race and hang out

Surely you parked somewhere nearby and walked to the gate, didn't you?

I sat in bumper to bumper for 2 hours and was still 8 miles from the gate. At 11 we decided to go eat, and go home. At the rate it was going we would have maybe gotten within a reasonable walking distance by 2. Seeing as the event starts clearing out at 5ish we couldn't see spending the $$ to only get a couple hours in at best.

Some real traffic issues that they are going to have to work out.

I guess I am glad I could not make it there this year....Sorry to hear that guys....But yes somebody will have to do something about the new issues...

At the old site, all you had to do was come in from the west or north and you could drive within 1/2 mile or less without waiting. Sad to hear that nobody did any analysis on the traffic and parking situation prior to picking the location.

Below is a link to news video and a short article. I can imagine they will have to hold it somewhere with better roads and access next year. When I got home I figured out where I was sitting in traffic was about 11 miles from Haydays. What a mess!

Sheriff asked people to avoid area

John Michael / FOX 9 NEWS

Chisago County, Minn - Traffic is slowly moving again at Hay Days in Chisago County. This after traffic around the snowmobile racing event came to a halt and the gates were shutdown on Saturday due to heavy traffic volumes.

Sheriff Todd Rivard says there were major traffic jams along Highway 95 and other side roads in the area. The backups were caused by very large crowds attending the event where snowmobiles drag race on grass.

Sheriff deputies and other law enforcement officials turned people away from the event for a period of time early Saturday afternoon.

According to some viewers that called the FOX 9 newsroom, people sat outside of their vehicles on Highway 95 as traffic was at a standstill. At points in the day, traffic was backed all the way to North Branch (11 miles to the west ) and Taylors Falls (10 miles south).

The backup, in the rural area, started about 7 o'clock Saturday morning as the crowds began arriving at the races and swap meet.

The Sheriff says this is a new location for the event, near Almelund. In previous years, the 44-year old event has been held in Lino Lakes.

Residents living near the site petitioned the County Commissioners not to allow a conditional use permit to the organizers of the event fearing the small county roads around the event would not be able to handle the large traffic volume.

The Hay Days web site says organizers expected a crowd of about 30,000 people.

The 4 stroke forum reports issues with the parking lot being muddy and dealing with stuck vehicles early. Another member says he arrived around 1PM and parked within 300 yards of the gate and went right in. Not sure how reliable those tidbits are though.

i got there at the beginning of the backed up traffic at 7am and got in the gates finally at 9:08am. the 2hr wait sucked. also, they wasn't too many deals on units there this year. also, prices on parts wasn't that great for the most part, but i did manage to come accross some parts i needed for a decent price. i like the new freestyle course, but the rest of the haydays layout sucks bad IMO. yeah, the traffic issue wasn't great either. i heard a bunch of people saying that they won't be coming back next year and there were vendors talking about how many people lost sales and such. hopefully next year will be better. the parking issue should be better, as i heard that they bought more land, specifically for parking. we'll have to wait and see.

We left home at 4am to arrive to a 6 mile backup on Hwy 15 which is the way the directions that the Sno Barron's map and website told you to go sat in traffic only moving 100 feet about every 20 minutes after 3 hours of this I decide to find a way out so I went down the wrong side of the road to the next intersection only to meet a cop about 50 feet from the intersection he didn't give me a ticket just chewed on my *** and told me to get out of there. (We were still 4 miles from the site) went to Hwy 95 and got in a line there that was moving only to get 2.5 miles from site and a cop telling people to go home parking was full. We found a place to park and walked 2.5 miles to get in. If I wouldn't of been picking up a sled there I would of went home but I need to get a sled I bought earlier out of there. What we found was LONG lines for everything like food and drinks and sled pickup and hauling. So to get my sled out of there I just bought a sled dolly and got it out myself. (Not waiting in line for 1 hour to get a number for sled hauling and then 2 more hours to get it hauled out. Bunch of BS heard that they only had 20 atv's with wagons hauling when last year they had 40 hauling sleds out. I was talking to a sheriff's deputy at the back gate on Hwy 95 where I took the sled to load (wasn't suppose to do that but they let me I told him I had asked the Sno-Barron's which I had done so they let me take it out that gate) but anyway the deputy told me that they were told to only expect 20,000 people on Sat. so they were not prepared I had heard that last year they had 40,000 people the first day seems to me the Sno-Barron's weren't prepared at all for this event. I WON'T BE GOING BACK ANYTIME SOON I WILL KEEP MY MONEY IN WISCONSIN AT ALL THE LOCAL SWAP MEETS AROUND HOME!!!!!!!!!! Going to Jefferson and Wausau and maybe Slinger much easier to get around and look at things much better events Haydays has gotten to BIG for it to be a good event. imo I did finally meet Mr. Sled and Rockmeister at the TY booth great people the sled look awesome Mr. Sled hope to get on a TY ride sometime this year.

problem was from the rain all night, when they opened the gates, big haulers got stuck and everything piled up from here. we left home at 6am and hit a huge line... took a few backroads and parked 1/4 from the track, was in by 9:15. buddy left same town at 5am and waited in line and got in at 1pm. gotta be smarter than everyone else i guess. had a great time.
