I know they say the SRX's are FAST. I have even heard in the top 5 of all time (correct me if I am wrong) but how do they compare to the newer 4 stroke 1000cc machines like the nitro or apex or the polaris 800's or the Doo 800's?
Theyre up there. I know for a fact they have a higher top end speed than the Nytros. The Apex is probobly a little faster all around comparing the two stock to stock. But for the fact that they are only 700cc class 10 year old sleds, they keep up with the new stuff pretty well.

Nytros are not top end sleds so comparing an SRX to one is useless..Nytros run high 90s to 102mph....Apexs are a better comparo....stock Apexs run 112-114mph....SRXs will run the same. My stock 99 SRX ran 114mph on radar, that was on a warm day ( just above freezing ) on ice with an inch or two of light snow....probably would have hit 116-118 if it were colder. A properly setup SRX will outrun any Poo or Doo 800 twin, not sure about the 800 triples, and they should be right there with an Apex.

ran a longtracked apex on the lake last year, temp was 45* out and i outran it start to finish, same with a iq 800. no comparison. at least 5 mph faster up top, and i was only pulling 8200rpm. gotta get it up to 8500 still

Run any of those sleds in good hard packed conditions and the SRX wins. Put it in a bit of slop or loose snow and the game changes. Pick your times well and the SRX is a weapon. Very had to beat when well set up!! Watch out for Mach Z tripples and the big T-cats on the hard stuff though. They can be set up to run very hard and grow long legs aswell.

i quess the question 2 all these other sleds can u keep them running with out blowing them up we know that the yamis are reliable so its easy 2 buy a winner that does, ent blow up so when ur budy calls u 2 go sledding u can actually go.
I chose to compare the SRX to the Nytro because this is a Yamaha forum, and most of the Yamaha faithfull on here will be relatively familiar with the performance level of the Nytro. Even if they just go by what they have read in magazines they have a solid idea of where the Nytro stands performance wise. Going on that info they would be able to form an idea of how the two sleds compare to each other. 2 stroke vs 4 stroke, old vs new, 700cc vs 1000cc. Thats what Jay-S was asking, therefore I don't think comparing the two sleds is useless at all. Understand???Nytros are not top end sleds so comparing an SRX to one is useless

I raced most of the new 4 stroke, the one that surprised me was the apex. We were neck to neck untill about 80 and i started to pull away. That was on hard pack across the lake. Thats with my 2001 srx. Another one that surprised me was 2010 ski-doo 800. Srx's isnt the greatest out of the hole as everyone knows... but It took me awhile to finally pass him. Other than that a 9 year old is still compeating i think thats great! lol i dont think i want to ever get rid of my sled haha

I've never owned a Yammie tripple but do know they are great sleds. I'm not sure how they compare with others but I havn't had a stock SRX go around my Vmax-4 or 03 RX1 on the big end. An SRX does have long legs but they arn't alone.

Ya I undersdtand Netefrog...I own an 08 FX Nytro RTX ( with mods ) and have owned a 99 SRX 700....therefore I can say it's not a good comparison. The FX Nytro is a ditch banger...the SRX is better suited to lake racing or groomed trail. To compare a sled that does 100mph at best to a sled that runs 114mph or better is a bad comparison. The 2 sleds do not run in the same catagory...comparing to an Apex is better, both have good top end. The only place you could compare the two is in a 660 or 1000 ft race, beyond that is pointless. Further more, my response was to the op, not you..you understand????

what an awesome thread love to talk about performance everyone has there own opinion and yes pick your battles with the srx there fast on hard pack but get in the bumps and its another story
