egt probes

In the tech section under misc their is a nice how to with lots of pics. I can never get the link to go to the tech section but its easy to find. CCC

u need 2 keep ur probes close 2 the collector no more than 2 inches back, u go 2 far back and it is use less u want 2 read the temp closest 2 the exhaust port other wise u will not get a true reading . AL

ok. i asked valin earlier today and he reccomended to put them in the header/collector/manifold at 1.5" from the cylinder mating surface. i looked tonight and it looks like its gonna be a tight fit but then again it wasnt very light out. thats why im looking for a pic just to get a visual on how others may have mounted them.

They do not need to be mounted on the top either. You will have to mount them offset to avoid the spring mounts.

i have a set of manifolds from a 98 srx with the bungs mounted at 2" off the cylinders. if these were compatable with your machine, it wouldnt take much for me to send them to you. i had a digitron something 54 on mine, and used the weld in bungs. let me know if your interested. i have no use for them anymore.

mine are capped off. will this work?

yours appear to be pipe mounted, like 5 or 6" away from the cylinders. how did that work for you?

ive read they can be mounted in numerous places. the what difference would it make if they were mount 2" from the cylinder or mounted 5 or 6" in the pipe?

probe/egt manufacturer recommendations. from my understanding, and anyone feel free to correct me, placement is based on the pyros and the reading equipment. back in the day on the 600 twins using westach sweep guages, non digital, the placement was further down the exhaust vs the newer technology. call up exhaust gas technology or digitron and their tech guys will answer all your questions, or they used to, havent spoken with them for a while.

I bought the sled as it was but owner stated it was professionally installed. I have heard EGR placement is very key to getting accurate reading

u can mount urs at the end of the out let on pipe no good so what are we doing here u want the exhaust temp thats coming out of that engine so the farther away u go the colder the pipe . u mount as close to the collector as u can 2 get accurate temp. 5 to 6inches up the pipe don,t even bother 2 put them on waisting ur money my 2 cents. i have run lots of these gauges and exhaust probes, ones that i bought allready installed 5 to 6 inches away had 2 be redone.

Hmmm... Digitron recommended placing the stinger probes on my '01 5-6 inches from the piston. I tig'd the weld bungs under the pipe in roughly the same spot Tom Seal has his. The probe tip should be at the center of the pipe I.D.

The dyno motors (4 stroke) I see at work have the probes placed roughly 5-6 inches from the exhaust valve.

Regardless of where you place the probe, the temp reading should corrispond to proper piston wash/plug color. In other words, jet for proper piston wash and what ever the temp reading is is your baseline.

snomofo just nailed it... equal distance for all three probes and placement within pipe, jet to plug appearance and piston wash, take note of weather conditions THEN take note of temperature readings. Just my $.02!

thanks everyone for the responses. i have an extra set of manifolds so im just going to mount them in the manifolds at 1.5-2" from the cylinder.

one better than digatron gages jet for minus 20 put holtzman temp compensator in the air box and never look @ another jet allways adjusts 2 temp and altitude works great
