Would a bad stator hurt my top end performance? I had a hard time getting over 100mph and revving over 8000rpm on long blasts last year and also some electrical issues pointing to the stator(tach/dash going out). Could they be related?

yep, harness rub thru. fixed mine last week.
Harness was repaired last year and I am fairly confident that is not the problem. If I was riding and switched to brights, lights would dim, tach and speedo would go dark and then takewhat seemed like 20-30 seconds to recover, and the recovery didn't seem to be affected by engine speed.

I will look at the harness again. When I repaired it last year, I rerouted it over the carbs and clutch cover then down to the hood harness.
