8" Rear Wheel Kit Question

I will be running a 8" rear wheel kit this year on a monoshock skid and was wondering if it was necessary or required to run the 2 outer wheels if I am running the two inner ones. I do almost all trail and lake riding and I am wondering if there is any issue with this. Let me know what you all think because I know I have seen many sleds only running the inner wheels. Thanks

a lot of 2 wheel kits are for the mountain riding as the track cleans better and is easier 2 lay them over how ever works well in all condiitons as i ride both mountain and trail and yes less weight 2 rotate so u will see higher top end speed. my 2 cents
 
heres something to ponder: yamaha ran both a 3 wheel and 4 wheel rear axle set up on certain models. the models with the 4 wheel set ups were the faster, more powerful sleds targeted at high speed lake and trail running. the intent of the extra wheels, in my understanding, was to keep the track on the skid during high speed manuvers. i run a 2 wheel set up on the mtn sleds, i dont ride trails or lakes. i wouldnt even consider this as an option for trails.
 
the biggest fault with only using the rears on a trail sled is if a wheel fails, you have nothing to hold the track away from the adjusters and rail tips. The other issue is handleing, by running no outside wheels in the back your sled you will loose a little flat cornering, it is minimal but it is there. going to 8in rears on a pro action is going to make you pound on your rear heat exchanger even harder so make sure you have gaurds. If your going to run 3 wheels, the most efficent way is to run a center wheel. If your going to run billet wheels for speed, you might want to weigh them first. Plastic wheels are lighter and dont ice up like aluminum on the trail and get even heavier.
