I have completed all the skid maintenance per Betheviper's write up and replaced some bearings and did general maintenance. Added the Ohlins to the front, transfer rods to the rear, ski alignment, suspension setup, installed new carbides, and studded the OEM track.
With all of that I am happy with how the machine handles from 40-100mph. It handles like a damn slot car. A few of my buddies can not believe how fast it is through the groomed trails even though they have much newer and "faster" sleds.
My question and goal is to get this thing to hook up at 0-40mph which is a huge problem with not only this 700 but everyone I have ever ridden. I am not against replacing the track, adding larger drivers, and adjusting gearing but want some actual feedback from owners or wrenches that have completed any modifications that have solved this problem. I would love to have more travel in the rear suspension but don't want to put $1,000 in a $1,700 machine.
Here is a list of my mods from memory:
144 studs, 8" carbides, maximum performance transfer rods, ohlins up front, new jetting per the tech pages,head gasket mod from tech pages, stock can drilled per the tech pages, yamaha OEM belt.
I would like to do a clutch kit this season also to help out.
