Question, I have an 02 Viper and changing the chaincase side of the drive shaft (the one that spins the track) anyways, I had the bearing go, and it shredded the seal that is between the track and the bearing. The question is how far into the chaincase casting do I push the seal in? All the way to the bearing or flush with the casing? The shaft looks tappered and don't want to get it right. I assume if you have done yours, you will know which seal i am talking about. Any help appreciated! Also, going to do the jackshaft bearings also, since I have 9,800 miles on them. Any tips on getting them out?

have you taken the chain case right out?
I just flipped the chain case over and found the correct sized socket to pound out the race (rubber mallet).
I pulled the dust seals out of both bearings on the inside of chain case... dont know if thats a good idea or not but i imagine the chain lube gets on the bearing nicely...

I would be referring to the other seal. It isn't a dust seal on the bearing itself, it would be before the bearing from the track side. Or maybe I doing it wrong and it goes between the case and the bearing. But it is a separate seal and not attached to the bearing.

Its been a few years, but I believe that seal your referring to is pushed in till it is bottomed out in the chaincase.

the oil seal your talking about goes about 1/8" from the bearing. i assume you have the chain case off the sled so install the lower brg then install the seal (lip towards the brg) until the lip is 1/8" from the brg race.on the drive shaft theres a sleve that the seal rides on,i find it better to remove the sleve from the shaft and place it in the seal first then when you install the chain case thers is almost no chance of damaging the seal.PurePower said:I would be referring to the other seal.
