Guys, I really need help. I tried to remove the rear axle from a replacement skid for my 89 exciter. The bearings were shot. I could not get the bolt off the shaft. I heated the bolt and ended up snapping it along with the shaft. The setup is good from my old skid, so I was going to put that in the new skid. I thought I would be able to tap the shaft out of the other side but it is not budging. Now what? Is the middle wheel holding the shaft or what. I am out of ideas. I searched for hours and looked at microfiches, I am still at a loss. What is keeping it from moving? I can take a pic if it will help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

I believe the "bolt" is locked in with a pin and not supposed to come out. The way to take the axle out is to take "nut" off and slide it out that way. But I could be wrong since I haven't had an older skid apart in quite a while.

If you can shoot a quick pic so were sure were talking about the same thing. But like sled said. Remove the end with the nut, the bolt side should be 17mm and the nut side 19mm. Then if you have to tap it with a hammer. nothing should be holding it in place but a little rust maybe. CCC

pic is too large it says. how can I post it? The nut broke off with part of the shaft. I have tried hitting it. I hit the frickin thing so hard sparks were flying.Something is holding it in place.

Yeah, I thought about it, not much in the mood for joking. I bought this from someone on here" ready to go". Yeah not quite. Front arm was cracked all the way through, left side was cut almost all the way through. sliders worn and broken. I told him my kids would be on this thing. Nice

sounds familiar..when I bought my SRX from this guy,it was a cold day..so really didn't check it over..just wanted it.Later found w-arm cracked badly and he put on new sliders to hide the worn rails.Just picked up another skid and installed it on the SRX and kept the other for spare parts.
Don't know what to tell ya.I had an axle nut that went bad on me..was trying to force tighten it up.With a wrench on the bolt side..snapped the bolt.Had to order another axle.Maybe if you sled was neglected(seems like it if the rails are worn thru) then the rear bearings have never been changed,So possibly shaft is worn in a few spots and will not slide out of the bearings when you whack it good.Try some blaster in there if you can.Sounds like you have your work cut out for you.Something is stopping it from sliding thru, try and take a good look..but may be easier if the skid is taken out and then you can visualize better and may have to cut up the axle in pieces with a sawsall in order to remove it.Either way be prepared for new axle, spacers, bearings(hopfully not any wheels.Keep us informed.

Misread your first post, thought you were having trouble getting your good axel out too. I would do what blue said with removing the skid. Not a big project and then you can go through the skid while its out. Sounds like you will have to cut the axel out. Whats holding the bogies in place where the axel is broke off? Those should be off right? CCC

Saw your pic over on HCS. Makes more sence now. If its froze to the colars and bearings of the 2 remaining bogies other than seeing if you can get some pb blaster in their and some heat for sure cuting it out is the way to go. That will be off in 3 sec and your using the one from your other skid so wrecking the shaft should not be an issue. CCC

I got it. Thanks to everyone with their helpful comments. Amazing what some pb blaster and a 2.5 pound sledge will do. I can't believe it did not break! I pounded the heck out of it. I said well it is either coming or breaking, it came.
