I accidentally cut one slider 1/2" too short. How big of a gap can I leave at the end of rail without the clips hitting the rail?

if it was only 1/2 an inch you should be fine because the rear wheels should hold it low enough so they don't touch, I wouldn't worry about that to much.

I've done that before! I just put it on anyways and ran it 1000 mi no trouble.
Heck, I've even cut the end with the hole in it!!! (Boy I do some stupid stuff when I drink!) Nothing the old Makita drill can't handle.
