ok, so starting to get the sled ready for this winter and remembered the last ride of last year... id be riding and all of a sudden id see a flashing red light, i actually thought it was overheating so i pulled over checked and that wasnt it... everything was fine but i couldnt figure out why the red light would randomly flash??? anyone have any ideas?
it would be intermittent...
thanks for any input to follow

The easiest way to diagnose it would be to have the series of flashes as it is actually a code and will tell you what the problem is.If it wasn't a heating issue then check you power valve servo connections, power valves or the other electrical connections as this could be your problem.

could a shorted heated grip cause this?
yep. different code for grip and switch. you should be able to read the code simply by starting the sled, if the condition is still present. pay attention to the flash sequence. some slow, some fast, number will repeat itself.

ok ill fire it up ill be at the shop within a day or two, ill post the code hopefully someone will be able to decipher it!
I just had this problem..... if it is one long three short flashes the dealer will tell you there is no code!
it was a bad plug on my temp sensor, just thought I would mention thats an easy one to check if it has it while your at the shop!!!

grips and power valve are the most common things to set off the light ...pull the valves and clean them and make sure you dont have any pull thrus ...and that the servo is working ...if you need repairs let me know i can fix you up better than new ...

they are also prone to rub throughs on the wiring harnes where it goes down under the motor, check for the sequences for the code first, if it is inter mittent and just flashes its probably it. pull the harness out and check wires for rub throughs. i had this happen once and just wrapped them all back up and it was fine. i was told they are prone to it. i have heard of people casing them inside old air hose or something similar just to ensure they had protection enough to never deal with it again. good luck.

Store bought split convolute, heater/vacuum hose... anything that'll protect it from rubbing through.
Best to completely remove it for inspection. Can get a little tight where it runs up the back of the motor (airbox removed) and some have taken to using electrical fish tape or coat hanger to giude it back under/behind the engine.
IIRC - the connections at both ends are pokeyoke so you can't get them wrong hooking things back up.
Never had any symptoms or rub throughs probably because I rerouted and covered it after taking delivery brand new. It should have been protected out of the box. Seems to me it'd been cheaper to cover it with convolute than use the riveted-on bendable stand off thingys.
