hey everyone i was wondering if anyone has any insight on the silencer modification that can be done on 600 / 700 cc sized SX based motors? For example, how much louder would one expect the sled to become and are there any power gains that come out of this mod? Also, any reliability issues with this mod? thanks.
Little loader, more throaty sounding. No reliability issues. Power gain - some. In conjunction with the head gasket peel, reed notch, and the can mod you probably pick up 7 horse or so. Definitely made power as the clutching was off due to an over rev.
I've got a drilled can I'd send you, but the shipping would probably cost more than the can is worth.

Okay cool thanks for the response, and no worries I can do that mod myself, I just wanted to make sure there were no negative consequences. and as for the head gasket peel supposedly you have to run premium fuel after doing that mod which I'd rather not have to do. So do you think I should do the drilled can mod or would I have to change clutching as well because of the over rev? or would you have to do all of those mods to create the over rev problem? and essentially this is what it would sound like after? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VScUrMqSs0

Knocking that hole in the silencer was the best and cheapest mod I ever did to my 700 when I had it. Slightly louder but really woke the sled up. I had a bender can on it years before and that made the sled slower.

What do u mean about knocking a hole in you can? How can I do this to my 2002 sx600r stock can? I've reamed out catylatic converters on trucks before so this solution shouldn't be hard! Thanx for the info!

You drill straight up the exhaust outlet with a hole saw and cut the last baffle. Most use a 2", some use a 1.5"
A couple of bucks

Didn't have a 2 inch hole saw. But I did have a 1 inch in the tool box. Drilled one to see how it sounded. Ended up putting another in it.

I would also like to know about this.
Ok, A couple of bucks, "says it didn't work for him and others say it was the best thing! How do you it? Just drill in how far? Do you need an extention or can you use a regular hole saw?
I understand there is a post with step by step instructions on how to do the head gasket.... I can't find it. Can someone direct me to the post, please.
Thanks all.
