When I start my SRX it starts to squeal near the clutch. I thinks its the belt rubbing as the clutch spins. I will be able to further determine this by taking the belt off and see if it disappears but I didn't have time today.
Anyone else's do this?
How do i take the belt off? I would think by rainsing the rear and walking the belt around the "thing" LOL

I figured out how to remove the belt- I'll remove it and see if the squeal goes away

It sounds as if your belt deflection is too tight. Search on here for "belt deflection" and you should be able to figure everything out. There is 3 8mm bolts on the back side of the Secondary Clutch(one closest to the rider) which can be shimmed in or out to acheive proper belt deflection.

To remove the belt, I usually keep the track on the ground, set the parking brake, and then push in and turn clockwise on the secondary clutch sheve which is closest to the airbox. The Sheves will spread apart, and pull the belt up closer towards the center and you can "massage" the belt off.

Good luck!

Dirtjumper is right on. Is it a new belt? Mine always squels a bit a first with a new belt. I just wash it real good and just let it break in on its own. Usually goes away in a ride or 2. CCC

yes its a new belt- When I picked it up yesterday the guy had a new belt on and one spare for me. Also a brand new set of plugs in it

What is belt deflection? How the 2 parts line up? clutch and secondary sheave?

snip

Wash the belt with soap and warm water first. If it still squeaks check deflection.

I am not sure that at this time it is belt deflection because it isnt when the sled is moving which is when tightness on the secondary would come into play

No, you won't hear it when it's moving, just when idling and sometimes when taking off. Very common with a new belt. If you don't want to listen to it while the new belt is breaking in, take the three bolts off the secondary as Daman showed, take a set of washers out, then put the bolts back in. This will open the clutch a little bit which will loosen the belt a bit and stop the squealing. As the belt wears you can put the washers back in.

Cool- I am going to get 2 new OEM belts- upon further inspection the 2 belts that came with the sled dont look new- and I cannot see any brand name-
We have a house on Long Lake so hopefully we can get together and ride.
