Picked up 3 (500 style) boots and square bottle this past weekend. In the tech section, it indicates that a SRX style steering arm or shimming is needed. Would feel better going with a steering arm. Anything else I'll need before I start on it ?
Will be installing reed spacers at the same time.

any I have delt with dont fit too good, make sure you cut and weld a clearence for the tors switch and wire. This could be done by angling the inlets to put the tube closer to the cylinders or cutting a slot in it.
if this is for a sled with coils mounted to the reeds, mount the coils on top of the head in front. the mount already is drilled correctly, two holes just need to be widened to the next size. Use a little sealer under the bracket to keep the coolant in. Also, use some heat tape or a piece of aluminum under the coil packs to keep the heat from manifolds away.
while you are isntalling, port your reed cage stuffers, carbs and boots. if you start assembling those items, you will see alot of edgeds that do not match up at all. Lots of free gain there.

Make sure you get the rings that go on the carbs to bump them up to the size of the intake boots.
you dont need these, just use the old clamps off your original carb boots and they will fit fine. If your porting the carbs to boots, make sure the clamps are tight when doing this. it will give you an accurate installed fit so you take off enough to smooth it out or not take off too much.

This is good. What I like to have, is an idea about shtuff before going into the project.
Steering arm a better choice over the shimming ?

the bent shaft is alot better but you need to remove the motor to install it unless you are elasticman. I ran my venture shimmed one year and it sucked. It made the carbs not touch but they did while riding and it made the airbox not fit as good. I had it shimmed about 1/4up in the back to get some clearence on the carbs. If you have the time, change out the shaft.

Not a whole lot of noticeable gain doing this (boost bottle) is there. I'm figuring that a bunch of small gains equate into something noticeable. A little here...a little there equals a difference.
