I have an 02 SRX as a backup sled, I enjoy riding it but tired of getting beat up by the lack of rear suspension. Anybody have any ideas on an economical upgrade that doesn't break the bank and provides a good ride?
A lot of guys, myself included, have put in Doo SC10 II skids,a few have put in Polaris skids and some have done a Cat skid swap.If your diligent and watch Ebay and classifieds you should be able to pick up a second hand skid for a couple hundred bucks or less.

does decent to just pick up a viper rear shock and throw it in there, sometimes you can get them for a decent price. if you do you might want to thing about doing at least shock extenders or something up front for it it handle right. back when i did mine i got some longer 15" shocks from an xtc for it but before that i used a cheap set of shock mounts(lift kit) of ebay with stock length shocks just for the ride height and it did ok. if you dont do anything at all to the front it is tough getting ski pressure for turning. good luck.
Thanks guys I was thinking about a viper skid but was also concerned about how low the front is so I'll look for longer shocks. Does the Viper skid mounts line right up or no?

yes but just get the shocks, transfer rods and etc and your good to go with your skid
OK already have the rods so just need the shocks front and back
Hey I have viper shocks the front set and the back one for a 100 bucks if your interested.
SC10III used for around $250.-300. with good shocks....( so much better then any well set-up proaction)........back saver with no ill effects in handling or speed.......

So what kind of shape are the shocks in do they need rebuilding? Are the Viper front shocks longer than the SRX fronts?
These shocks have 200 miles on them. Viper front shocks are longer than srx front shocks but they have different ends to the shocks. The viper fronts have a fork on one end while the srx has eyelits on bothe sides while the viper only has one with the other one being a fork. I heard guy bending them to fit or having a machine shop make wider front brackets. The shocks are all in great condition and all can be rebuilt because they are the rebuildable kind. The rear shock bolts right in. I have viper rear shocks in my sled and now it sits really high. I had made front backets to work with the viper front shocks and the thing looks like a monster sitting so tall in the air. Will lose a little bit of that slot car feel though but I like to hit some whoops since I'm still young.
Do the stock springs work front and back?

have heard of people chainging ou8t the bulk heads also to get the viper mounts so they can use the viper shocks, but depends on how much time your puttin into it. thats why i used the xtc shocks. stock is about 13.5", xtc and other long travels of that time are 15", and vipers, sxr and other newer sleds are 17". the 15" ones i used were a pretty good match i thought. but they were ohlins also.
