Hello, I've spent most of my time on the 4 stroke forum relative to my Apex, so new here. Last week I bought a 98 SRX 700 with 2914 miles on it. Just a few questions for the pros.
-What plugs should I be using, this guy has NGK's in the machine and BR9ECS as spares.
-Do I need to always run premium fuel?
-What is the best oil, can I use Yamalube, I already use this on 02 venture.
-It has a slight hesitation after you give it gas, then runs fine. This is probably due to not being used last year, old gas, carbs dirty, power valves dirty?
-What is the best headlight bulb I could buy?
I'm very excited to get this running for my son and to compare to the luxury of my Apex. I've always wanted the SRX and remember this thing being one of the easiest to ride in the trails because of the low center of gravity.
Thanks for any feedback, this is a great forum. You guys have helped me immensely on my 03 Rx-1.

Always use the highest octane fuel you can find on the trail. Definitely clean the carbs!!! Also, clean the power valves!!! Both cleaning procedures are described in the tech section.

Probably the best bulb you could get would be a PIAA H4.

BR9ECS plugs and premium fuel(92+) always.
you never know when you'll be doing a looong WOT pull and both you'll need for that.

correct, BR9 ECS!!!
Amsoil Interceptor oil is the absolute best thing going for these exhaust valved 2-strokes. Also, Klotz and Shell offer good quality full synthetics.
You can run either the BR9ECS or the BR9ES. The SRXs came stock with the BR9ECS as it had more resistant to plug fouling then the regular BR9ES. Ive talked with an old Yamaha tech and he told me that Yamaha said that you couldnt run any plug but the BR9ECS in the SRX or it would void the engine warranty. Well somehow NGK ran out of stock of the BR9ECS and Yamaha had a tech update saying it was fine to run the regular BR9ES.
My personal experience, I run the BR9ES and have never had a plug foul on me yet. If you have the extra cash though, Id run the BR9ECS
