what kind of numbers can you possibly make with the bender 4x4 pipe and porting and alittle head work? anything close to a piped viper ? i am just wondering

This is what I got with my Viper
Porting 400 rpm gain
Bender 4x4 pipe and torque limiter 500 rpm gain
I have not dyno'd the sled for hp but I do believe the the gain in rpm on the current clutch setup equals more hp produced.

i wonder if it near the 140hp area. cause i like pipes and all but their frican noisey and gas guzzeling. so idk you ever race a srx or anything impressive with your set up or?

If porting is done right, you get a solid 10hp with single pipe, with a couple other minor mods along with porting you can get 12hp total. You can raise the compression some but you better make sure you have 93 octane fuel at all times. I also would make sure you have a srx rear exchanger, the stock cooling system is marginal and adding power wont be a good thing without bring the cooling system up to srx standards.

(The viper stock head is not a very good design,(mag cylinder runs hotter) better to use aftermarket)

so your saying a viper will have a solid 130 horse roughly with the bender pipe and porting and some small other little things. sounds like expensive 12 horse. i guess im sticking to the pipes. thanks again

Triple pipes are the most hp per dollar no doubt, but you will use WAY more fuel, and youll also have the chance at a ticket for aftermarket exhaust in alot of places. The best your gonna see with pipes is 9mpg, and thats with perfect clutching/gearing combo and cruising groomed trails(been there done that)so just be forewarned, your range per tank will drasticly drop from 12-13mpg, but its sure alot of fun squeezin the throttle with about 150hp under the hood.......BRaaappppppp!

gotta pick your own poison I guess........LOL :2strokes:

1.) best fitting and quietest pipes-SLP
2.) best pipes for drag/field/lake racing-CPR

Be sure to add a rear coolant exchanger from a srx.

For some guys using the single pipe is the only way they can go so its a option(porting) and it works quite well, its a "sleeper" also when the hood is raised. Some like to walk softly but carry a big stick! ;)!

lol i like your way with words haha. well i got the bender pipes. and i no they are good for 145 horse. i ride from 0-2000ft. i got the needles number 3 position. 55 pilots and 167 main jets all the way across. i got the srx exchanger and the opticool head gasket. i am going to run 93 everytime but i am also going to bring around the k100 stuff. brings your octane up 2 and takes care of the ethanol supposibly..

now i am just looking for an alternative for wieghts besides the expensive h/c or heavy hitters. you got any recommendations. i want a weight that i can work with. i no the stockers suck so that y i have been looking

what kind of riding are you doing with the sled 90% of the time?

75% trail..25% off. i ride to places where i can climb hills and jump drifts and mess in awesome areas lol. every sunday i go down to a local race area called torture hill and we drag. thier is this 583 that is unbelievably fast. watch this video and you will be amazed

thats 2 lightly modded f7 and one mxz800 and that 583 is clutched piped geared etc. mrviper this guy knows his stuff. its funnier then hell when everyone looks at this 1996 583 that looks like a bucket and they claim its a 900 or something dumb like that.

sorry for draging on my answer, just thought you should see that sucker cause it amazes me all the time

What kind of head would you suggest and what type of gains and reliability could be expected?

its not really for the gain in "performance" over the gain in reliability from the even and better cooling, the stock head kind of has a eddy feature-

(just like a river where you fish for trout, the current leaves a eddy where the water slows down and isnt running the same as the rest of the current)

meaning it doesnt cool the mag cylinder very well because of the design and flow path of the stock head. This is why most of the viper engine failure are always the mag cylinder, even the stockers, it runs hotter and gets detonation much sooner then the other 2 cylinders.

so you got any recommendations mr viper. lets say this 90% of the time i like going corner to corner as fast as possible. want a good descent alternative weight

I will tell ya this much, you cant have both!!, its trail riding or drag racing. if you dont set up your sled for the riding youll be doing 90% of the time, you will be miserable and unhappy, I promise you.

a good "all around weight" would be a 8dn-20 srx weight(2000-02), use a decent size helix,maybe something like a 52/44,51/45. for a primary spring i would start with a y/w/y (45/128).

the guy with the fast sled likely isnt trail ridng and hill climbing, he is hanging around the strip racing all day so to run with it or beat it, youd need a drag set up. So then lets say you do this, then after the racing when YOU hit the trail with your friends, a fast drag set up doesnt backshift, your sled will be boggy and down right not much fun in the trails, but... your fast on the strip.
So what you did was set up for the 10% of the time you ride and now for the other 90% you are miserable. Just set it up for what ya do 90% and just deal with the 10% win or lose, youll be 90% happier! ;)!

like I said, pick your poison...lol.

lol once again you have a good way with words my friend. thanks alot for all the help. sounds like a good start too. i will probably go with the 51/45 cuase i think it will work alittle better in my application. should be pretty good in 800ft. what that spring kick in at?
