01 heads on a 99 srx 700

Hey fellas i was wondering if there is any power to be gained by simply putting on a set of heads off a 2001 and up srx 700 onto a 1999 srx 700? I was considering doing this instead of shaving .025 off my heads and stacking gaskets. A full port job is outta the picture right now because of funding...i was just looking for a little cheap fix for a bit more power. How about the head mod offered by Hauck racing? Has anybody had any experience with that mod. I have a set of reeds that i'll use this winter, clutching is bang on, studs, hauck growlers...etc, was just wondering if modifying the head would do me any good.
 
00-02 heads are only slightly tighter then 98-99 somewhere around 4cc's. Really the gain would be minimal yet to even notice a gain.

For the price you would pay for the 00-02 heads,you would be better off doing turks poor man port job with the extra base gasket and cut your 99 heads
 
4cc's smaller is a decent gain in compression.

before you just raise the compression, what fuel do you have there ALL the time? 91 octane? if so, dont mess with it, your only gonna find problems.

wouldnt waste my time putting in the reeds, the stockers work just as well and you could put the reed $$ into the sled where there is more gain for the dollar.... clutching, oversize skid wheels,gearing, etc.
 
There are only a few places around here that i can get 92 octane. I figured i could get the heads cut and run 92 with some octane boost. I have unlimited access to 110 low lead aviation fuel but i dont know it it will wreck my engine or not so i have never used it. What kind of fuel would i have to run with the cut heads? I'll assume i have to up my main jets 1 size....maybe more?
 
If you have access to the 110 low lead then you can do anything you want, it will work fine mixing that with pumpgas. ;)!
 
what mixture should i run mr viper? 50% 91 octane premium and 50% 110 octane low lead av gas? thanks for your help
 
sorry i made a mistake. It is 100 low lead. what mixture and what jetting are you guys running for cut heads?
 
no, it wouldnt take a 50/50 mix, likely somewhere around 3 gallons the 7 gallons pumpgas would be more then safe.

What I would do since you can now run better fuel is measure your squish now with lead solder, bend it in a "L" and insert thru sparkplug hole. make sure when you do this your hitting the side of the bore,you can "feel it" in the solder, be sure the solder faces either the right or left side of the piston, not the front or back. by rotating the clutch with your other hand, the piston will squish the solder against the head giving you the clearance. measure with calipers and machine the amount off heads to get to target spec.

set up the squish to .055"-.057" and run it.

I would start off with 150 mains and adjust as needed by piston wash and plug reading.
