Hey guys, I'm looking at a couple sleds for my kids. Both are 1999's. SX 600 triple and a Vmax 500 twin. Mileage is kind of high. Pushing 6500 miles. Should this be a concern? What should I expect to see as any problems with these sleds?
Any thoughts on their value? Both look pretty clean
Thanks

If the sleds were taken care of, I would have no problem buying them with that mileage. Fire them up, get them warm, listen for strange sounds from the engine and perform a compression test.
I always grease the drive axle speedo bearing. It is often forgotten about and gets neglected. probably needs shock rebuilt or replaced and skid gone through with new bushings and idler wheel bearings changed or greased. with that kind of mileage, the top ends probably need a rebuilds with new pistons, rings and cage bearings
same thing with the 500 but the twins are hard on clutches IE weights and rollers

Great sled! I have over 10K miles on mine now and won't be stopping anytime soon.
There are a couple of things to look for.
1. The W-arm on these crack after about 4-5K miles.
2. Check the speedo side drive shaft bearing. They go out all the time.
3. The bushing in both the front and rear suspension most likely are worn to the point that hey should be replaced. Good time to repack or replace the ideler wheel bearings too.
All in all they are great sleds that can really take a pounding and keep delivering for 10k miles +

Also check the primary clutch for any cracks that may cause the primary to explode.

At one time, that would have been considered high mileage, but it really isn't anymore. Do the proper maintenance and you should be able to put twice that mileage on without major problems. There is no need to go inside the engines yet.

Got approx. 13,000 miles on my 700 tripple and the motors never been apart.Still gets to 100+ mph pretty quick.6,500 is nothing if it's been looked after.

I have over 11,000 miles on my 99 600 triple. The 600s are bullet proof. As mentioned above these are the things that i have had issues with / check for:
W-arm cracks
speedo bearing and you mine-as-well do the jack shaft and track shaft bearings if they have not been done for preventive maintenance and saftey for your riders.
Great sled!!
