hi,
I have a 97 vmax sx its a 600 twin and only has the single pipe

I want to get aftermarket exhaust to get some more hp out of her but it also has to sound good, not like and arctic cat which i personally dont like. I heard aaen pipes are nice but they are also really expensive and I can't find them for sale anywhere for a twin vmax.

If anyone has some advice for me that would be great I don't know where else to look

The gains you will get by putting exhaust on are next to nothing. Not to mention you cannot find anything cheap. When I had mine I concentrated on clutching, I'm sure someone on here can reccomend a good set-up, I don't remember what mine had in it but it hauled ***.

if you had a vmax or SX 700 triple, piping the sled would be a much bigger gain for the money then on a 600 twin. You probably have shabby gas mileage anyways for a 600 twin and would be much worse mileage piping the 600. just put together a clutch kit and ride it. clutching will be much quicker for much less then pipes and pain you have to go through tuning.

I had a set of pipes on a 94 vmax 500 and I ended up taking them off a year later.

really? I heard you can gain up to 8 hp when switching from a single stock pipe to twin performance pipes...I was planning on getting a clutch kit after getting pipes but then the drawback of pipes is after putting them on, in addition to changing the clutching I would need to get bigger carbs because of the increase in back pressure is that true?

thanks for the input any suggestion on the brand clutch kit?

there is no need for bigger carbs but you could if you wanted. tuning would be even more of a nightmare though

go to the tech section on user clutching set-ups and find a sled like yours and start there.
