can anyone tell by looking at it tell if it is 2000 and newer, i have read theres bearing differances in 98 & 99 , but i dont know what they look like

98 and 99 have different PTO bearing

That is a 1998/99 crank. The 2000 + up SRXs have a wide one piece outer bearing shell on the PTO side similar to the bearing on the Mag side in the pictures. The crank in the picture has two seperate bearings on the PTO side.

how hard is it to change this to the newer one, tips on changing, i would guess you can't run the 98/99 race with the 01 outer bearing , just tore my motor down and inner bearing howl, so i wana run this 98/99 crank in my 2001, the pto bearing on the 01 spins fine but does make small amount of tink noises when spun like the rollors are little loose in carrier

Curt, just slip the newer bearing on the race and install. no problem. If you look at the newer bearing thewres still 2 differnt sets of rollers in there, just the outside race is 1 pc.
