I just did a complete rebuild of my srx700 and it won't start on it's own...if I pour gas oil mix into cylinders it runs like a champ on first pull, then peters out. The oil pump and fuel pump where working great prior to the rebuild...I also replaced the pulser hose...any ideas?
;)!

Some things to try:

-ensure a least 1/2 tank of fresh fuel[preferably full]
-ensure fuel will actually flow from tank out of fuel line to pump
-check pulse line for cracks, kinks or loose fit, any problem here would cause the pump not to work
-ensure all fuel lines are properly routed, attached , not kinked, and properly clamped
-ensure tank vent is not plugged
-ensure carbs are clean and properly set/adjusted

Some sleds are stubborn to pump fuel so ensure you give it a good chance with 2 or 3 attempts

If all of the above check OK some possible causes:

-fuel pump inoperative
-crank case leaking so no pulse or weak pulse to pump
-reed problem, leaking, broken or improper installation of gaskets, blocks, spacers
-cracked or leaking carb boots

Just some ideas.

keep doing it.My re-built 600 the other day was a b*tch to start since it was so dry so long.Gas in the plugs over and over and she will eventually suck once engine is firing longer. My SRX wasn't as bad..but after 80 pulls I put gas in the plug holes and she fired up right after.

need to hear your SRX running..mine started and runs good,so I guess I did good..lol.Did you bleed your oil lines..make sure and run her a couple of minutes with the oil cable fully pulled outto ensure oil is getting to the internal parts and you'll be good to go.... ;)!

Thanks guys...I actually took the top off the fuel pump and filled up with gas...it started up right away and ran like a champ for about 10 min. until it warmed up...now I see oil on the floor shut her down right away...looks like it's leaking oil...I'll probably have to pull the engine again...chit!

did you snap ring all your oil lines??Maybe the bleed screw is not tightened all the way.If I had oil leaking out and had to take motor out again..the sled would then end up in the Pond out back....I would water skip her across and shut her down to her watery grave,,lolll

yeah, I'm going to pull the air box and carbs and check all fittings, I'm heading out on business and hope to get to it next week...it runs real nice though.

I got a chance to look at my "alleged" oil leak and noticed that the leak was oil overflow from overfilling the oil reservoir...dohh :o| ...anyway this is good news and I'm very happy with the way it runs on used parts as well. I replaced both cases, crank, impeller seals, one cylinder, head, piston, rings and all gaskets and seals. Pulled the carbs apart and cleaned the bejesus out of them.
Attached are some photos...I couldn't post the video TY wouldn't upload (?)

...check out the hole in the case...I rode it home on two cylinders.

I wanted to thank you for your very informative thread Bluemonster1...It was the basis for my rebuild, made it very straightforward and saved me lots of aggravation and $ ;)!

...added sound and more (better) pics, see edits. The build was pretty straight forward, with a few notables;
- impeller was seized by loctite on the used case, I basically destroyed it trying to remove it (although did have my good spare from the factory virgin case).
- used a spare track driver (sprocket) i had kicking around to seat the mechanical seal, using it between the mechanical seal and the business end of a hammer...worked like a charm.
- used a harmonic balancer puller (readily available) to pull the flywheel.
Made sure all bearings, races were spotless and used lots of 2 stroke oil on surfaces. With the used parts, gaskets and seals I'm out about $600 cad. not bad...and I had a blast doing the rebuild...hope it lasts!

yes it wasn't to bad my first time. Now time will tell if we did a good job on the motors..lol. Still waiting for the damn snow to show..damn frustrating that waiting game.... :o|
