okay i purchessed this sled with a no spark problem and was told its probbably a grounding out wire or something, i found the problem by the cdi box it was worn down right to the wire, so i replaced the wire and wraped it with electrcal tape, then i cudent figure out why it wouldent start so i messed around with the choke a little bit and had the sled running, so i turned it off and 3 days later and its gotten kinda cold out i go to try and start it and nothing its getting fuel and the vary odd spark but now there is no spark, i rechecked the wires and they are fine, my question is how do i know if my stator went bad and how do i test it?? when i go to pull it over the lights do not turn on or anything on the dash i dono if its normal im new to sleds?

When you pull the rope you wont get any lights only once it's running. Check again and see if you are getting spark at the plugs. Do you know how? Let us know

If you already found one rub through you probably have more wiring issues as well.

There is lots of info on here if you search "rub through"

A friend of mine had an issue on a 2000 SRX with shorted out hand grips. He unplugged them to protect the electrical system, but when he lent the sled to another friend they ended up plugging the grips back in and damaged both the stator and the CDI!

Yes I had my friend pull the cord and I was looking for a spark I saw the odd spark the otherday but today I saw nothing when first got the sled I fixed the rubthrough by the cdi box then I was getting spark, i looked for other rub throughs under the engine and there was nothing, is there a way to check my stator? Or my cdi box? And once I had the sled started every thing worked it would just die if I let the Rpms go low I dono if it's the carb tuneing but I gotta figure out the spark problem first

If you have an ohm meter you can check the stator windings but you will need someone with a service manual for that sled to get you the resistance specs. These checks are supposed to be done at room temperature too so if you have a heated garage it wont be an issue but if not and you test the stator in the sled at ambient temp it may throw off your readings.I have asked the question about testing a stator in the sled in a cold shed vs removing the stator and taking it inside where it can come up to room temp.It seems to me that it is recommended that it be warm to test it.

Stator!!!!!!

I have a 2000 SRX 700 and had the same problems as you but no wire rub through my sled would have intermittent spark then there was none at all, had the motor out and checked everything, the stator was bad so I bought a new one put everything all back and there was a spark again sled started right up and back to normal.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Or your guys help is there any stores online that are fair priced for a stator I called my local yammaha dealer and they wanted 278$ plus tax? Is that fair or should I pick a used one off a working sled off eBay for $100?

I bought one from the dealer $280, plus I bought a used one just for back up

Did you test your parts yet?

Here are the specs:

have you pulled the harness out from under the engine yet? before i started replacing expensive parts "hoping" I change out the right part, I would pull out the harness and inspect for rub thru's, it likely needs it anyways, 90% of all srx and vipers have the problem, so why not fix it now and remove that from the list of "could be the problem".
