2003 Viper Worth it?

There is a 2003 Viper for sale locally with a blown motor. The add says it has blown crank and one cylinder. Sled has under 900 miles and still looks new and hes asking 1000 bucks for it. A buddy of mine has a 03 parts motor that has a good crank and 2 cylinders that I can get for 200 bucks. Just wondering if its worth trying to put together or if ill end dumping way too much money into it.

totally worth it. Make sure the carbs are setup right, maybe that is why it blew up.

Also make sure the bottom end is good, if it wiped out a clyinder the rod in that cylinder might have casued more damage then he is letting on.

1200 dollars + some work and you would have a rally nice machine.
 
For $1,200 and some garage time away from the wife and kids I would jump with both feet at this seld! Oh wait, I have finish the basement project first!
 
If you do buy this sled definitely check the carbs out,I put an engine in a Viper last year for a bud of mine that pretty much went through the same thing,bought the sled needing engine work but ended up worse than he thought.Once the engine was out the block was seen to be split with the connecting rod poking out through and after summing it all up he decided to drop another engine in rather than fix his.While I was working on the sled I took the carbs off to clean them and found that the main jet on the cylinder that seized up was plugged almost completely so do not over look this procedure,cleaning the carbs.
 
Yeah my buddy who's parts motor i thought had a good crank appently doesnt so I dont plan on getting it. Its still a good deal to get and part if out because everything else is like new but i dont have the time as im in college.
