2001 SRX Long Track Conversion

I am a rookie at this stuff. Got my first sled (2001 SRX) last winter and had a ball riding it with my friends. I am interested in putting a 136 or 141 set up on the back and am looking for advice. I have searched quite a bit myself on the subject but get confused trying to put all the different info together. I have seen everything from what appears to be a budget method (skid relocation with 136 track) to full on aftermarket setups that cost some serious dough when it is all said and done. Who out there has lived the dream and can give me some solid advice on what works. I ride primarily in Michigan on the trails and do a little lake running also. I would like to not be afraid to venture off trail occasionally when the opportunity presents itself. Thanks in advance for any help!

For what your talking about a 136" would work awesome and still have sharp handling for trail riding which you stated you do.The cheapest method would be some rail extensions on your current skid, but personally I'd find a polaris edge or iq skidframe for your conversion, you won't believe the difference in ride and traction.I've been running a 136" setup with a 1 1/4" ripsaw for about 6000 miles and its been awesome for the kind of riding I riding I do in northern Michigan which is very similar to what you have described.I'm running an m-10 skid which has been great, but may be more money than you'd want to spend.Also get some better skis if your still running the stockers as they'll make a huge difference with the longer track.
 
I'm using a 136 A Cat skid. After ditching the pro action, I wish I had done it years ago. I first ran rail ext's on the stock skid, but it only made it handle worse. The problem with extensions is that you move the axle back but the suspension pivot points stay, so you effectively change the leverage on the suspension. Plus you add weight to an already very heavy skid. I takes some work to mount a different skid but you will be sooo much happier with the results, & shave some weight in the process, Since you're going 136, the track is heavier, more studs, longer skid, the lighter skid would be helpful.
 
Thanks very much guys for the advice/ideas. Swede, what ski's would you recommend and what carbide length? Also to Swede and ottawaair do I need to extend my tunnel and will I need different drivers and or mounting points for one of the non yamaha skids?

I run and really like simmons flexi skis the original 6" wide ones, some on here don't care for them its kinda a preference thing.Bottom line is you need some with more flotation to go along with the longer track and more bite to counteract the push of the long track.C&a's are popular as are slp powder pros an even the newer yamaha mountain skis that came on the newer mountain apex's.You do need to extend your tunnel and hartman inc. makes very nice kits, these can be purchased directly through him or I got mine from Rich at Rich motorsports, good guy to deal with.Your stock drivers should be fine and you'll need different mounting points with a non factory skids.The biggie is getting all the dimensions from the kind of sled the new skid came from, theres a website called jbshocks.com which has a writeup on this kind of thing thats very helpful and even has some dimensions for different ones, hope this helps!

thunder 66 i have the tunnel extension you need cheap im in marquette if you ever get this way i will show my long track srx a buddy of mine has my m10 and track i will c if he wants to sell it

That one is an old extra 10 polaris with the holz kit on it. No idea what sled it was originally in. Using an x-tra lite now with a holz kit as well.
