One area of wear I just wanted to let people here know was the powervalve and cable attachment. I disassembled all valves, and noticed the cable end, which is cylindrical piece of steel, that is slid into the side of the valve, wearing away the end of the valve reducing the amout of material used to retain the cable end. Along with this reduced material it created a knife edged surface on the cable slot which in turn started to wear and fray cable strands. One valve/cable had minor wear but the other 2 valves had cables fraying, cable ends worn and the valves had pretty severe grooves worn in them from the cable ends.

Fyi ...for you guys running high miles.

I have traditionally removed the valves and cleaned them seasonally, but have never disassembled them completely. If the cable fails, the valve cannot contact the piston due to the stops inside of the cylinder but it does come very close, I think the clearence is in the service manual. So its not a day ending thing but just thought I would get the word out there.

I actually had a cable end pull through the valve. Sled did not run good, but was able to "limp" home to the trailer. If you order new replacement valves, they have much more material on the cable end, preventing this "pull through" condition.

Thanks for the info on the new valves SRXdude. Still having heartburn regarding the cost of replacement of the valves and the cables which comes out to be about $350. The valves are 78$ each. Cables are around $20 each. This sled has definately paid me back with s-miles though.

Looks like I'll be in your neck of the priarie tonight. Flying into Bismarck tonight for Thanksgiving with the inlaws. It should alright, they are loads of fun. How is the snow out there? Heard they had enough to take the sledding itch away.

We have a couple of inches on the ground. Not really enough to ride. Just enough to have to shovel!!

Flying your own plane in?

Nope, I work for the Airline so I leave the flying to them, especially when its free. Actually working in San Antonio currently. So flying through MSP then on to BIS.
