I was given an 87 Exciter. Even though it is an 87 (82M stamped on tunnedl) it has the 88 carbs (Mikuni round slide) on it. It does runs rich and bogs down till it dies. I noticed a lot of excess smoke when running and raw oil in the exhaust when I took the muffler off. The carb are adjusted correctly been through them. I started looking at the oil pump and cable. The cable is out of adjustment when I follow the instuctions for the 88 oil pump. It is so far out of spec that I do not have enough adjustment to bring the dot on the end of the cable out to the end of the adjuster. At Wide open throttle the dot on the end of the cable is still inside the adjuster.
Is it normal for these cables to stretch that much or what am I missing? The cable appears to be the correct cable based on the part #.
