The lights shouldnt light up on an 01 when turning over. Did you check the wiring harness for signs of rodents? Also check the flywheel for corrosion and the stator.

i jumped out the relay 2 n thats how the lights lit up. I did not ck the flywheel or stator yet. I do have pulse's when pulling over. never wrked on a yahama where is the cdi ? do i clean the flywheel ? is there a pickup on the flywheel ?

the CDI is by the left footwell its a black box. The pickup for the stator is behind the starter cup also clean the flywheel and test stator ,Specs are in the tech section

Well you gotta clean the points off with a piece of sand paper...haha jk Its probbly the cdi because if u do have lights then your stator is good because its putting out power but i have seen some sled where they had spark and no lights or they have lights with no spark...
Thats the nice thing about yamaha triples they have 3 coils lol

swapped out cdi for a know good 1 still no spark . cleaned pick up, still no spark. I have pulse's coming from all 3 wires out of the stator. does any 1 know the ohms for a 2001 srx 700 ? or any other ideas ?
do you have a wiring diagram for youer sled? it would be beneficial to look at it then simply check the pulse coming from the pick up coil out of engine, then take a reading right where it enters the cdi box. I would then check the voltage coming out of the cdi box going to the coils.
when looking for a electrical problem, you always start at the source and work out, which would be the pick up coil at the motor, the voltage will be varying around .08-.09

would checking the resistance in the kill switch both readings from the open and closed circuit be a dumb thought?
AS mrviper700 said start with the pickup coil. You can do a resistance check. I had one go bad and had no fire.
He must be pulling his hair out.. I like checking easy stuff. Its a pain to have to pull all that apart to check the pu coil
Actually, you don't have to pull anything apart to check the pickup coil. Just need to find the harness plug with the white/Green and white/Red wires. Its located next to coolant line by pipes. Next to the choke. Just pull plug apart and check resistance across the wires going to stator. S/B between 189-231 ohms.
Is user lorida818 your buddy and the same sled? if so, it says your using a test light, that wont cut it when trying to test the electrical componets, you cant tell the voltage outputs or the resistance with one, you gotta have a digital meter!
If you dont have one, you can buy one at any sears store, they run about $20 for a decent one that will do everything youd need to check on a sled, motorcycle, etc. its a great tool to have when it comes to this stuff, it saves you buying parts and just changing stuff till it works again.

Jay daniels is a genius!!! It is the pick up coil that is no good. ohmed it out today and found that its no good. Thank you very much for all of the input and help. Now the next question is where to find one and any idea what there going for? Once again thank you all very much for helping out!

After browsing the net it appears i have to buy a whole entire stator setup and that you cant just get the pickup coil? Another question is that there is a couple posted on ty used for around 75 plus shipping, I found new ones for about 175. In you guys opinion is it worth the investment to spend the extra 100 and get brand new or would used be ok?Thanks again!
Glad to hear you figured it out and glad I could help. As much as I'd like to take credit it was the good people on this site that helped me out when mine went. Just passing the info forward. Anyhow, you are correct, it comes as an assembly with the stator. If you don't want to purchase a new assembly your best bet is to try and find a used one on this site or find a used stator that has a good pickup coil. I put a used one on mine.
