I am restoring an older SRX sled and being really picky about every detail. Most of the fasteners are a bit corroded with a white powdery substance. I don't want to buy new fasteners for the entire sled and would like to replate or recoat the original fasteners. The new OEM fasteners I bought are an olive green/brown color. Does anyone know what this coating is and if it can be reapplied after stripping the original coating and corrosion off the fasteners? The fasteners clean up really nice by glass beading them. If I cannot get the OEM coating reapplied, I will have them nickle, cadmium or zince plated. Thanks!!

I am restoring a very important old SRX as well. Everything has to be perfect. A friend that has also restored a few told me what he does. He just gets a bucklet full and sends them off to be plated. I got a bunch from him that he had done. I think it is just zinc and that is original. He just sends a bucket full to a friend that does it for $50 or less. That includes the fuel line clamps and everything. You don't even have to clean them in any way first. Be careful if you do buy new, however. I bought $400 worth from Stadium Yamaha with the correct part #'s and over $100 worth of it was useless. They are making replacements in the wrong color now. Incorrect coating. They were black.
I think you can specify though. For example, the bolt that holds on the break lever and switch was like $6.00 so it isnt cheap. First it came in black (from my local dealer) and they were able to get the correct one for the more money.
Good luck!
