the can will make you u lose a little power like 2 to 3 horse. but in other words i like the bender the best, just my opinion. and some other mods are , i would get a torque limiter for the motor and the rear srx heat exchanger . ask mr viper or mopar rules or turk for clutching help. they are frican good!!! good luck

best mod would be a torque limiter, other wise you're gonna be swapping out motor mounts more than you fill the tank. heat exchanger next

A can will lose quite a bit of performance. Don't waste your money. Torque limiter is good, keeps your clutches in line. The rear heat exchanger is questionable. I have one on mine, my old man does not and I haven't noticed much difference. I put one on because I had pipes on it one season. Stock you should be fine. I prefer the Heavy Hitter clutching. I have had my 2002 since it was new and have close to 8000 miles on it. 7000+ are on the HH clutching with ZERO problems and they plain work. My other suggestion would be good traction. The stock track unstudded spins like crazy.

Torque Limiter
Hey Guys,
Where is a good spot to pick up a Torque Limiter/cluch kit?

Hauck Power Sports, Bender Racing ,Pioneer Power Sports or Fixx Power Sports. I am not sure if Ulmer Racing would carry these anymore or not. You could try them first. He is SRXSPEC on this site and has ad links on both sides of this site (4 stroke or 2 stroke).

Torque limter and SRX dog bones mounts are needed because the engine torque will snap the stock motor mounts, no joke.
I don't know about rear heat exchanger becasue mine came with one on the back stock, but I'd imagine thet'd be a good idea.
But you can see my mod list from my sig. I love them all and think they are all necessary and important.
Triple pipes really up the fun factor. Many use 40-10 Heel Clickers and they work well on Vipers.
The Boss seat ranks very high in satisfaction with everybody who has one, just fyi.
Evenually you will just have to add all of the mods I guess.......

Daman, is it really you? Maybe I've missed your posts, but you've not been here on the site since like last spring!

Stud questions and Thanks for the help.
Thanks for all your help, I just ordered my torque limiter, and I am going to get my studs put in next weekend. I am thinking 144 is that enough or should I go with 166??

1. Torque limiter is the same thing as the SRX dog bone. The only difference on the other mounts is the SRX uses a 3 bolt front left mount, but it can't be used with electric start. There is a couple different versions of aftermarket torque limiters, the stock dogbone style and there is a 'stopper' style. the stock dogbone style is much more efficient and can still be ordered from yamaha for about 40 bucks.
2. My viper stock would throw the coolant temp light on on hard packed trails, rear heat exchanger fixed that.
3. Agreed!!!!!

Sounds good I am going to go with the Stock dogbone style from Yamaha, and 166 studs. Where can I find the rear heat exchanger?
They pop up on ebay quite often.
If I am reading these posts right, you can't install a torque limiter on a ER Viper ? Just those without electric start ?
thx

You can istall the torque limiter on electric start sleds, just cant use the SRX motormount. That SRX motor mount is better but theirs not enough room with the e start or it uses one of the bolt holes or somthing like that. Not sure on why, just know you cant. Have torque limiter on both my e start vipers. CCC
Thanks, I've searched Port and Yamaha Parts House for a limiter and have come up with zip.super1c said:You can istall the torque limiter on electric start sleds, just cant use the SRX motormount. I got both of mine off ebay. They are from SRX. Its the same as the viper one. All the holes are already their to mount it not sure why they didnt put it on in the first place. I would call port yamaha or any of the other site sponsors and just tell them what you need and they will set you up. Im sure someone here has the link to buy them online. Try a search. CCC
