Ok so I received an Exciter 440 from a friend for free. Needed lots of work but I have tracked down the needed parts. The original motor threw a bearing in the crank and chunks went through the journals and chewed up the case bad. So I scrapped the case but kept all other parts.

Now I have bought a used motor and will be reinstalling all the original parts needed to run, (I hope). I never heard it run as it was doa.

My question is when I started to tear down the old motor and remove the salvageable parts I did not mark how the clutch was aligned on the shaft.

Is this something I will have to play with when I reinstall everything? or is it not an issue?

Also any performance parts or mods that would be readily available and easy to do that any one can suggest would be awesome.

BTW This is my first restore of a sled, and I will keep it all original. I will have to do some minor body work to the hood as the front lip of the hood where the hinges bolt on is totally busted off. I will re-fiberglass it this coming spring/summer and repaint it and have all new decals made for it as well.

This has been a great experience and will totally do more of them. I also have a 1980 Enticer 340 Deluxe we bought brand new still in mint condition with only 900 miles on it awesome sleds.

I dont think so, the clutches need to be aligned with each other but the primary just bolts back on after you service it....
