idle changes and colder weather

heres another one for you experts... from expert to newbie.... as the season gets colder, i notice alot that the idle tends to change alittle on sleds, which is understandable. but do you guys adjust the idle screw on your sleds as it gets colder to get the idle where it needs to be?.. just wondering, its not uncommen here in upstate ny for it to be 20 degrees one day, and minus 20 the next, is it ok to constantly adjust the idle screw on my sxr to get the idle where it needs to be? i havent had this sled yet in the winter months, but im just courious what others do during the season, seems very easy to adj idle on this sled, just a slight turn of the screw. or do most, just set it at seasons start, and forget about it? im not gonna worry if its off idle by 200, but im just wondering how crazy people get to have the idle right perfect? like i said, i have not had this sled yet during winter, but i know from past sleds that idles can change day to day.
 
always playing with my idle on the 600SXR. These sleds are famous for the idle hang also,which may take 5 to 10 seconds to drop down.Usually I just flick the choke lever.But I am always adjusting idle speed to be correct zone once it idles down...nature of the beast.I have also open up the fuel screw adj. more then stock setting..still hangs...
 
In short,,


as temps and or alt change yes idle changes because fuel mixture changes,(cold leaner higher idle or warm rich lower idle).
 
im also new to the sleding world. got a 2000 sxr 600 . i had some bogging when i started it for the season after storage. cleaned the carbs, all jets , and pilots . put fuel screws to 2 turns out..when i was taken off the air box i noticed that one of the boots to the carb was almost off. im guessing that might have been causing the bogging at idle and low end ?? but after cleaning carbs she runs fine. BUT now the idle is higher about 2100-2300.. where is the idle screw to adjust?? it should be atleast under 2000 right ?
 
Its the screw on the top of the carb rack in the center.I believe 17-1800 rpm is the spec, but I always thought it seemed to low and didn't like the sound of it either so I run my at 2000 or so.
 
Also make sure to loosen up the throttle cable some before setting the idle. That way its not fighting itself. When idle is set then set your freeplay of 1.5mm on the cable. I have seen too many people try to lower the idle but the cable was too tight, not allowing it to drop. Then double check the oil pump cable adjuster.
 
ok , thanks guys for the info , i looked and there was the idle screw right in front of my face , dont know how i missed that big screw ...ha.. well i have another question hopefully someone can help with.. the rubber boots from the air box to the carbs keep comming off.. i had them tight were i couldnt move them at all. then was warming it up and a ride around the yard and they were almost off. i little wiggle and all 3 just popped off. any help woould be great.
