Finally got my courage up to clean the power valves. I took the device off where the cables wind around the pulley, then took the 4 screws out to back the powervalve out. NOW- How does that power valve disconnect from the cable. Just yank on it hard, or...?
You don't have to take the servo (the thing with the pulley) apart or off. The valves simply have a slot in them to go over the cable. Pull on the valve to get it out of the housing and then slide it off.

want to make sure I understand this
So I keep pulling on the valve to pull it out of the housing until I can see where it disconnects on the end?

yup pull on valve and u will hear the servo turn and valve will come out the housing and you will be able to remove the cable from the valve ....clean the cable slot on the valve and make sure you dont have enbedded cables in the valve top ....if so sent them to me and i will fix them for you ....

What is an enbedded cable in the valve top?

he means make sure your cable hasn't started to pull thru the valve or embedded itself into the valve.Cable should wiggle free of the valve. If one is embedded,it is a little difficult to back it back off, then the PV end needs repair after so it won't happen again.

Instead of pulling on the valve(never good) turn the servo clock wise some ,that will put slack in the cables so you can slide them off the PV.

what daman said is the way I do it.Watch sometimes only that the cables don't get that loose or they may jump off the pulley.Been there done that and later had to look for diagram for what position the cable had to go back in.... ![Head Bang :o| :o|](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/banghead.gif)

Yes. disconnect wire before yanking on valve,, yes valve itself,,, if it is stuck in the cylinder,,, use pliers with a cloth, move valve straight in and out of slot if stuck.... spray if needed to loosen,,,,

OK, now I understand.
I took the valve out of the far right side (throttle side) and it slid right out. Took a needle nose pliers to the cable - real nice and easy like- and it disconnected easily. The valve isn't caked up at all. I soaked it in solvent that is the equivalent of charcoal lighter fluid, overnight, and the solvent is reallly black. So what the hell, might as well leave it another night and see how much crap is left in the morning. Then I took Q-tips, dipped them in the solvent and swabbed out the recess where the valve slides in and out. Took about 30 Q-tips and they cleaned up really nice.
I will be getting at the other two cylinders tomorrow. Thanks a lot for all the great advice!

be very carefull using pliers on the valve ....i dont recommend it i get them all the time and the shaft usually gets nicks in it and than the valve gets stuck on the collar ...use some carb cleaner to soften up the carbon ...and if you have to heat it up with a propane torch and they usually come rite out ....
