Running this gearing with 144 kwik pixx and clutching. I weigh 220-225 is this going to do harm to my sled w/ my weight. Obviously if i wanna compete i will run someone lighter but just if i wanna run throught the finish line?? Also anyone have any one of these gears for sale?

For 500ft. your gonna want a 20/40 gear. we usually run the 19/40 for shorter tracks like 400ft.

what speeds are you getting and time in 500 ft? I was also told to run 18/40 for 500 ft. ? 20/40 will not have enough bite i was told?

20/40 at 1to1 is about 90 MPH gearing. Running 500 feet with the added weight your carrying I'd go down to 19/40 (85 mph) I don't think your going to get anywhere near 90mph in 500ft with a 220 lb driver and gear, and the lower gearing should help out the acceleration.. Our 600 improver runs low 90's in 500 ft. Its lightened and has close to 30 hp more...

I always used to set up along the lines jabber has recommended. I would look at the mph speed the sled would be able to realisticly run for the given distance, then I would gear for that specific mph at a 1:1 shift ratio. Obviously the gearing has to be adjusted to cater to specific racing conditions.
Ex:ice drags[no or little track spin] or snow drags[potentially a lot of track spin]
IMEXP: I found with more potential track spin, gearing higher usually worked better.

What do you guys mean by 1to1 and how do you calculate the gearing and chains to get speed approx.

1 : 1 shift ratio is about as efficient as your clutches are during their upshift/ downshift ratios.

I : 1 means when the clutchs have shifted to the point that they are both the same diameter where the belt is turning

for example: the belt in both clutches in turning on a 7.5" circle...its the same as both gears being 40 tooth

LOL!!!...Does that make any sense ??

How do you know what the Clutch Gear Reduction: *
Clutch Ratio: **
are ?

And track pitch?

Each manufacturer runs a different full shift out ratio. The Yamahas will slightly overdrive to approx a 10% overdrive but when calculating your gearing you want the clutches at their most efficient 1 : 1 ratio. The clutches have to be fully shifted out to get to the overdrive, you only need to worry about this if you are looking at absolute max top speed capabilty.

Only Yamaha Vmax4s and four strokes run a different reduction ratio...for the other Yamahas like yours use 1.0

All stock later model Yamahas run 2.52 track pitch

Most stock Yamahas run 9 tooth drivers
