Is snowmobile insurance required? I didnt see anything online. My insurance agent says it is required although she is in NH and am unsure if she is really sure.

Not sure if the state of Maine requires it but i would not ride on any public trails without at least a liability policy. One accident, even if it is not your fault, could cost you a lot on money. My liability policy costs me about $200 for th eseason, just part of the cost of sledding.

no maine doesnt require it but ditto on jims remarks

I actually was suprised when I got up there my first time. Got to the station pulled out all my info and they said "we don't require insurance." I still carry it on the trails but whoulda thought with all those thousands of groomed miles there's none required. Absolutely the BEST riding with no congestion on the trails like down here in PA And NY.

maine carries a blanket policy that covers the state and private landowners from liability, the riders are on their own. a good friend of mine was unfortunate to be involved in a deadly crash a few years back and if he wouldn't of had insurance he would of lost everything. the family of the other rider got the full payout on his policy and still filed a civil suit against him but the judge threw it out because of the insurance settlement.
