Bearing replacement

As a preventative maintenance measure every year I make a point of greasing the drive shaft bearings. I was greasing the bearing that drives the speedometer cable today and noticed it has rust coming out of it. I cleaned all the grease out of it with brake cleaner and packed it full of fresh grease. This is something I do every year to all my sleds. That said, I would like to replace it to be safe. How much work is it to get it out? Do I need to take the drive axle out or can I just tap it out such that it comes out inboard of the sled cowel?

you can leave axle in just takes a little work to get off there is 2 set screws in side the tunnel you have to lossen first
 
puling the rear skid takes tension off the track, easy to do on the 200 and 2002 sleds. 12mm nuts hold the bearing on the clutch side (pull secondary clutch) and the 2 set screws inside the tunnel. Re install by putting on the cover then the set screws, secondary bolt is 46 ft lbs, not the 4.6 I have seen in a bunch of manuals

Isn't that a sealed bearing? How would you repack it with grease? Not to be a smart### but im just wondering cuz i was gonna do mine.
 
A razor blade used properly will work sometimes, but at 26$ retail, and the amount of water that bearing is subject to, its not worth wasting your time to clean and repack a bearing that you may damage or destroy the seal on.
 
Its not sealed. I repack mine every year on all 3 of my sleds. Slides out very easy if you do it every year. Just take speedo cover off, some models have set screws you have to remove. I do jackshaft bearing also. CCC
 
You can repack them. You have to remove the seals n grease them up. Be very careful removing the seals or they will leak. Every time I buy new bearings I pull the seals n repack them with Amsoil. Never had any go bad again.

I have a 98....are these the set screws that are inside the tunnel? Can I get to them without removing the track/skid??

To remove the seals are there 2 set screws on the face of them? Under the speedo gear housing?
 
the set screws are inside under the tunnel, use red loctite on the screws when replacing them. 15 torx head.
 
good luck ith removing it if it hasn't been touched for many years.I had my driveshaft out in the open and that bearing ould not come off.Went to another members place and he tried also and no go.Finally had to take my dremel and slowly cut away at the bearing until it could be cracked open to remove.

This is my second season with the sled, and I have never done anything to the bearing. I do believe that the previous owner serviced it regularly, but my bearing still looks bad. It's not making any noise or vibration but it looks rusty and dirty.
