so over the summer even while "maintaining" with traps and whatnot, I think the damned mice might have got to a few wires in my '82 Excel III! I do know I have a broken plug wire, so I'll be changing the coil/plug assembly out and hope this fixes it; but I think it might be more.
I've charged the battery and it cranks over just fine. I'm getting fuel as the plugs are wet after cranking, but from the basic screwdriver test i don't see a spark. installed new plugs. I can't see any chewed wires, but part of the harness does run under the steering and motor so it's not readily visible and I know they've been nesting down there.
any thoughts? what's the best way to test the harness to try and narrow this down? is there a cdi or any other control box/module I should be suspicious of?
thanks any help is greatly appreciated.

go threw you wires check all conetions u might have a bad conection had this happen to me last year 1 stupid wire coming out of the stator same deal no spark so i went though and cleaned them all

What you just put them in the sled?? and it keeps the mice out?

Yep, just lay a couple under the hood, one near the intake and one under the cover on top of the seat. Probably, going on 10 years since, I had a mouse chew on a sled ! No..... I do not have stock in Bounce.... :) Google do dyer sheets keep mice away. I would imagine any smelly dryer sheets would work but, I staying with what I have personally used that work.

I have always had good luck with Irish Spring bars of soap. My father uses them when he stores his fifth wheel away for the winter, and we both use them in our boats also for the winter.

I just slide the bar out of the box before I put it into storage, and then in the spring time put the bar back in the box. Smells good, no mice issues and I can still use the bar of soap.

As for bounce sheets, I have read plenty of posts here in some of the MN sportsman forums I belong to with mixed results....most say they work, but mention you need to change them out every month or so...and some swear against them saying the mice used them to build their nests.....

Never tried them myself due to the soap working.

Just another idea to keep in mind for next year.

I too have heard the irish spring trick. I've personally seen drier sheets made into nests in customers cars, but I couldnt tell you what brand they were or if they were changed out regularily. I've seen bars of soap chewed up too, but again don't know the brand. I think changing the drier sheets out periodically is the key.

i heard moth balls work too

I used a pan full of Moth balls under the hood and one under the cover on the seat and have seen mouse infestation to the point the pans had crap and pee all through the pans.......

Same here!! I've been soaking cotton balls with peppermint oil for years now and and NO MORE MICE!!

Plus the sled stays "minty fresh"

My chipmunks and red squirrels took the fabric softner
sheets for nest material......if you are siiting on cement,
surround the sled with shiny vinyl "fence" used to keep
chicks under the hot lights when young....a mouse can't
get out of a small waste paper can as the sides are slippery. I have used an old pool wall to surround stuff
and it will keep out the chips and squirrels too..
Ron
ps...leave the hood open so they can't hide as well ?
