sledpro alignment tool question

got mine used last year and have no paperwork for it. just looking for some clarification.
i'm thinking you slide the brass colored end over the secondary shaft. i'm assuming all the way in to the bearing cover? then flush the backside of the primary sheave to the end of the aluminum shafts of the tool.
am i correct so far?
then i seem to recall a thread before that someone said the shims under the front shafts were to account for the engine torquing under load. so with the srx and the torque limiter do i remove the shims?
 

you are correct,but I could and never have been able to line up them 3 small shafts with the back of the primary.The middle one is always off.Once the tool rests on the primary nicely,I move the motor around and line up the 2 outside pegs(shafts) flush with the back of primary.Takes some work to get right.I had to make the holes bigger in my motor mounts in order to move the motor around properly to line things up.It is a little frustrating to get it all lined up,but at least get it as close as you can.Good luck.
