Tubing on Carbs....

Was wondering if anyone can tell me the purpose of this. Maybe has to do with vacuum or something? It doesnt really go to anything, besides the 3 carbs themselves, the 2 long pieces just hang loose.... I would like to replace it with the poly tubing, that doesnt harden in extreme temps. What is the I.D. of this tubing?

I believe it is 1/8" ID

that tubing is just for simple venting of carb bowls to the atmosphere.

Intank fuel filter line is 5/16, pump to carb lines are 1/4, and vent lines are 3/16 for good poly line or 1/8 for vinyl lines.

thanks for the info.... is this basic knowledge, or was it easy to find somewhere? i even called Port Yam and service guys couldnt/ wouldnt tell me.
