so i pput 8 tooth drivers on my viper along with an 1 3/4 track when i pulled it out the rpms seemed a little high from what i remember..also i cleaned the powervalves put a ski doo suspension in it so i was wondering if i had to do something with dropping a tooth in the chaincase. please let me know. thanks.

by dropping a tooth in the drive axle you numerically increasr the ratio...kinda like taking a 2.73:1 rear end and swapping in a 4.11:1. You will rev harder than you did before which is why most people either increase the upper gear or decrease the lower gear in the chain case...I have a post started under 8tooth driver gearing...its worth your time to check it out

you say you dropped a tooth in the chaincase...the top or bottom gear? each has the opposite effect of the other....bigger top and smaller bottom "lowers rpm" smaller top and bigger bottom "increases rpm"

what is it pulling for Rpm's , from hole shot to WOT ?

didnt have the hood on or gauge so didnt see so ill put the hood on tonight and check it tomorrow ill post back.

By going to the 8 tooth drivers you are increasing your gearing by a multiplication factor of 1.125(9/88). So that will enable you to pull more weight in your clutch, as you have just reduced the "torque load" on the motor by gearing down. Motor will turn more rpm's as the "drag" on the engine is now decreased. If your stock was a 38/22 = 1.73 it is now(x1.125)= 1.94. You will lose top speed w/ that ratio. You will need to add more weight to the primary, or change gearing to get the ratio back to around stock gearing.

37/24 should get you back to your ratio but will require a 70 link chain...the stock is 68. This can get pricy quickly if you are on a budget.

yeah i can tell and what about the weights is that as expensive..but would it be ok if i rode it around like this for a while?
