First of all there have been several people on this site who have given me ideas to this solution but I have added a couple of tricks to this that I think really help this sled out in all types of conditions, not just powder. I took step by step pictures and will explain as I go. Hopefully this is helpful.

Items you will need:

-3M weatherstrip adhesive ( available at most parts stores)
-1 1/4", 2 1/2" and 2 inch hole saws
-open cell gutter foam(mine came from Menards but most improvment stores have it. It is triangular shaped.
-2" round Frogskin vent
-Arctic Cat M series Frogskin Vents
-PetScreen (available at home improvement stores or hardeare stores)
- Duct tape
-alcohol for cleaning the plastic
Step 1: Remove the windshield and the ram air intake pods, and the gauge cluster. All of these steps are pretty simple. Just take your time when pulling things apart.

Step 2: drill a 2" hole on the inside of each of the ram air intake pods(see photo below)

Step 3: Take and clean the plastic (i used denatured alcohol) and attach the triangle shaped frogskin vent from the arctic cat M kit over the 2" hole, this will keep out any snow that might get through the other 2 methods I have to keep this intake open.

Step 4: Take and close off the bottom of thses pods as they pull air right off of the engine compartment. I used duct tape, but yamaha blue so it looked clean. There are also 2 spots at the front of the dash that pull air from the engine bay and I used duct tape on these as well, but taped it from the top so when the hood is open you just see the blue tape and not abuch of torn duct tape.

Step 5: Take the triangle shaped gutter foam and shape it into a fashion to fill the shape of the ram air pod. (I used one of these knives that can extend out to get a clean cut) This open cell foam is what a lot of manufacturers use for their air box filters. I am using this in this application to keep snow from packing into this area and not being cleanable. After the foam is in cut it flush with the angle of the ram air portion of the pod. Grab your pet screen and fabricate a piece to cover your ram air vent. Install this with the 3M weatherstrip adhesive to the ram air pod, when you put this back into the fiberglass (plastic) piece of the body, the outer ram air pod, it will look factory. Repeat this for both pods. A lot of you are probably thinking that this will clog with snow and block air, which it can, so we will proceed to the secondary intakes. The nice thing about making this ram air functional is that there is always plenty of air rather you are pulling from in front of the dash or behind it.

Step 6: Drill (2) 1 1/4" holes and (1) 2 1/2" hole on each side of the of the dash where the ribs are (see Photo). Then clean the area with the denatured alcohol and attach the other artic cat Frog skin vents that match the shape. These things really stick well so put them where you want em the first time. Lastly drill a 2 inch hole right in front of the steering column in the little dished out triangle area. Apply the 2" Frogskin vent in this area. Assemble the components back together for a factory finish.

Step 7: Remove all hood screens and install pet screen on the fronts of them and use the 3M adhesive around the the edges to hold it in place. This keeps the snow out. This stuff is great, test it for yourself by blowing through it. The result is a clean functional finish.

I plan on opening my hood up more and using more pet screen. I will post photos of that progress.

Hopefully this helps out. And remember as with any MOD check your plugs and test, test, test to ensure that you are not creating a lean condition as this will lean you out just a bit. At elevation with my holtzmann ATACC at 9000 feet i am runnin 140s with hauck hushers. Pulls 9200 all day long.

Nice job! I did almost exactly the same thing last year, except i opened up my ram airs totally. and used hot glue and black silicone also work good for adhesive. For the cracks around the headlight etc i fillied with silicone. I still get a bog in the real deep fine powder though, mainly if i carve hard or if its over the hood all the time, and find it builds up on top of my airbox foam. So more work to do yet. I also tried putting 1 inch hole down the backside of my airbox towards the fuel tank and put foam around them, didnt really make a difference though. And for anyone that is going to do this i did notice it leaned me out a bit so be careful. But i did gut airbox somewhat too.

But again nice job man!

How much did those vent things run ya?
The frogskin 2" vents were $15.99 for 2 and the arctic cat hood vent kit was either $22 or $28. The gutter filler was $14 and the pet screen was $15.

i got vents in there two she still bogs down in the deep snow when the get covered up brush them and runs like rap ape. i am think most the snow comes in there cause of the low windsheild but iam not changing that made that way cuase the trees usually break it off so just deal with brushing it off

Are you talking about the vents in the dash or the ram air vents that I made functional also. I kind of wondered about putting 2 frogskin vents up around the gauge ;pod also but I havent looked into that yet if they would be in the airbox area or not. I do think the extra air makes a huge difference but once again watch the plugs it does lean it out a touch, i am runnin 140 mains in mine and a holtzmann attacc and it has been trouble free, could go a tad bit leaner as my plugs are a shade dark, but I would rather change a plug than a piston, I carry those in my pack (sparkplugs). Where you from in Iowa??

just got back from the hills. my mods didnt work, and im set up very similar to you. When in cold fine powder it pushes right thru my pre-filters on the ram air, and built up on the foam on top the airbox. causing a intermitent bog, i pulled the filter and ran then next two days. it will still bog some, but its not near as prolonged, the filter just seemed to hold it and keep feeding it to me. Im going to block off the ram airs gain, and most likely rip out the airbox and go to individual filters on each carb. a firend runs them up here and no probs.

Zack19, have you blocked all the openings on the inside of the hood? If you haven't, it's still taking the steam into the air box when the powder comes through the two front hood screens. I see you said that you used silicone to block the cracks around the headlight. Sounds like you mean the cracks on the OUTSIDE of the hood? That's not what I mean by blocking the openings around the headlight, I'm referring to the openings on the underside of the hood.

Whatryan, I assume you mean you have vents cut into the dash? That alone won't cure it, have to block the openings on the underside of the hood.

Click on the link and look at the pictures I posted in #109 and you both will see what I mean. I have absolutely ZERO powder bog issues now...
