I was checking over my sled and I happened to see some heat checking at the center of the primary clutch, and a slight wear into the sheive, was already going to rebuild the clutch just as a preventative measure, but is it going to be shot and have to get a new primary now. ![Head Bang :o| :o|](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/banghead.gif)

One of the downsides of the hardness and durability of the Yamaha belts is after time the clutch sheaves start showing wear.
IMO...if the clutch sheaves have a fairly pronounced groove worn into them and especially if they are showing cracks, they need to be replaced.

I'd replace you would hate to have it explode at 8000 rpm's would not be pretty.

IMO, better safe than sorry. Replace the primary. I am sure you can find a good used one on the forum. If the one you have now was to grenade on you, the results could be horrible.

absoloutley start looking for at least the sheves you need, but ive seen them last a long time like that also. i would start looking for one but its not something seriouse anough that you couldnt go for a ride tomorrow if you wanted.

Replace it! Ive personally seen one come apart at 9300 and the end results are not good, plus you could be severely injured!

Def replace..myfriend had one go on his 97 700 when we lined up to race..and I was next to him and parts of that clutch went flying everywhere...parts even hit me right through the Hood
Two words.....HAND GRENADE
Deffinetly have it looked at to be sure they are actual cracks. Sometimes aluminum can have some odd looking casting flaws that appear to be cracks. Not worth taking a chance for sure!

Very dangerous!! Had one go right through the 1/4 inch aluminum crossmenber of a v-max 4. I'm glad it went down instead of back at me. I check my clutches for spider cracks often now.. I would never knowingly drive a sled that had cracks in the clutch again..
I've also had one grenade at 9000rpms. NOT PRETTY and could severely mutilate or kill you. found pieces 50 yds away from my sled. DONT CHANCE IT

had both mine replaced one new and one was a new take-off from a new sled the dealer put an overdrive sheave on. it was only a couple hundred bucks out the door. alot cheaper than the alternative
