11,000 miles on my viper so I tore her down. Engine had zero problems, just wanted to do it as my viper is now my full time river rat. (pipes on the way) Everything inside looked great but there was a little surprise under the pto cylinder. 6 small metal buttons(will post pics later). I think they are rivets from a cage in one of the ball bearings. Anyone ever see/hear of this before? Also, does anyone know of someone who is good with yamaha cranks in mid Michigan area?

pics of the mystery metal

here's some pics, if they dont look good i'll try again, never posted pics on a forum before.

Im guessing that picture was taken on the cover of the Viper manual? Maybe post a pic of one of the pieces next to a ruler or something just so people know the size. Might give guys a better idea of what they could possibly be......

You must have a lose rod slapping side to side...... That's scary......

do you figure they're pieces of a rod bearing? none seemed loose to me. none of the bearings seemed sloppy either. i'm looking for a local guy to do tear it apart and see whats wrong. any recomendations(in michigan or otherwise)? other than those little guys the inside of that motor was spotless.

looks like bearing rollers to me,something is wrong in the bottomend.

i just cant believe nothing else is broken. i'm looking for someplace to take the crank for service. saw the price on bearings from yamaha, wow. are there cheaper ways to obtain them?

Try cb performance, i beleive they still do crank rebuilds and i had one rebuilt there for a reasonable price, they are on this website as well, contact member 2ooosrx , he should be able to help you out

well, the guys at cb performance should have my crank tomorrow. rich was really cool on the phone. hope it doesn't need to be "thrown in the lake". but if it does he assured me it would only cost me 75 bucks. lol. but in all honesty TY is awesome. it took less than 24 hours and i got 3 differant places to have the work done. awesome.

well, the pieces couldn't have come out of the crank. cb perf called yesterday and said they couldn't find anything wrong with my crank so they straightened her out and it'll be here tuesday. still have no idea where those little buggers came from.

Maybe a disgruntled Skidoo,Polaris , or Artic Cat rider was so jealous of your Viper's looks, performance, and reliability that he accidently dropped some rivets in your air box!

I had a Ski Doo racer drop a nut into the top opening of one of my Mod VMAX4s airboxes between heats a few years back...fortunately I saw him do it!
