Building a Mr. Viper ported motor for my drag sled and have 3 options for reeds and cages, v- force- v-force 3 and the stock cages, which would be best to run on this motor?
Why don't you ask the motor builder??![Smile :) :)](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/smile.png)

looking for opinions here, and expereinces with these reeds, I'm sure he will tell me.Just hate to keep bothering him with questions.
My experience working with Don and a couple of other motor builders is that the questions are what make the details. Most of them have tested all sorts of combinations in their particular package and have a good idea of what works in it and what doesn't. It's in their best interest to help you achieve the best running/working package for your application and $$ available. Now obviously it's up to you to make it work and there may be improvements to be had as each individual situation varies.
Try Carbontech reeds on the stock cages. Theyre more durable than v force and sell for less than half the price.

Boyesen power reeds are what I like to Run , cheap and last a longer time then the carbon reed , that my opinion

Fusion, is this a race motor or trail ported motor? What kind of rpm will you be running?
Valin, thisis a race motor, it was built for lake race but gonna do somemore cutting and timing, should be arond 150-160 psiand run on 100 plus octane, it should turn somewhere around 8500-8600 rpm.
if you have the "original vforce" they flow the best, because of the original aluminum blocks and petals are larger, the next reeds are the black cage and the gray cage 2's, those are decent as well. I think jason had a black set if my old brain is accurate.
I have used the stock reeds on alot of engines with very good results, they work far better then most people ever give them credit for, unless its a lake race/race big bore or full on improver, pro stock the stock will work quite well.
If you dont ask me, your only guessing on a engine I built. Its no big deal to answer questions, I only charge $3.99 a minute............LOL!!!
KIDDING!

The newer style Delta 3's (with the dual pedals instead of the the first gen. delta 3 design) also work very well. However, if you are running a low rpm setup on stock pipes, then you will probably not gain anything by jumping to the V-Force reeds over the stock reeds. I would keep the stock reeds until you jump up over 170 hp, or until you run race pipes at high rpm.
I am only asking because I have all 3 available to me or should I say I own all 3.

I would have to agree to disagree, if you simply run the bigger volume pipes still at 8500 with a small over rev to 8700rpm, the reeds definitely help the motor come to life. The pipes limit the breathing ability of a modded engine, thats why an srx700 engine will stop building power at around upper 168-170hp with stock pipes. As soon as the pipes open up, the motor can move more air simply.
All the 3's I have used have failed, they are junk, the only real reason they showed anything better were from the spacers.
Jason(original owner of engine) had reeds with it, i think they were the black cage vforce1's, if you have them use em, they wont hurt anything. Problem is , you cant hide them for racing if it matters. If you need the stealth look, the stock ones will work just as well with stock pipes as previously mentioned.
I dont tell people to buy reeds unless its an all out race engine, theres just alot and many more areas on a sled that $300 will get you more benefit!
Mr. viper, you are correct, there is a set in there, I'm gettin kind of gitty to get this motor together and see how she pulls, should be fun, waitin on Pat to get my carbs bored. Thanksfor everything.
ok, I thought I remebered those.
hey dont be afraid to ask something, I wont bite. Well at least not very hard....LOL! Just because you didnt have it built, its still one of my engines and will follow the new owners with help as much as I can, its all about getting you up and running as best I can!

The Delta 3's actually built more power (very minimal) than the Delta 2's on the dyno on my 1136, but they just won't stay together very well on that motor. I was chipping or breaking pedals every 4th pass or so. The Delta 2's seem to be quite a bit more durable in my particular application. I have even tried the 3's in my race sled with a few sets of test pedals from Mototassinari that are supposed to be designed for high horsepower applications and nitrous applications, but I also ran into chipping and breaking issues with them. Thus, I am back to running the Delta 2's in it.
On my 181hp 780 trail sled, I run the new style Delta 3's, with no issues with chipping or cracking whatsoever. I had alot of issues when running the first generation Delta 3's that had the 3 pedal design. They would pretty well chip on a daily basis.
I cannot comment on how much hp that the newest Delta 3's make in relation to the Delta 2's, or stock reeds on my 780 application because I have not done any dyno testing comparisons, although, that may happen in the very near future.
Just my .02 and experiences with them.
