I've heard the Vipers are not set to use enough oil from the factory. Is this true and do you recommend increasing the oil cosumption? I've heard this leans out the motor because with more oil it uses less gas. Not sure if this is true. How do you turn up the oil consumption? Thanks for your help.

Not true. Factory spec is just fine. Should use about 1qt per tank of gas. Follow post #4 by daman in link on how to adjust.

every single yamaha I has owned has always been rich on oil consumption and used a ton of oil, which is good for lubing parts up, just makes it run more rich still. even though more oil may mean less gas, oil still burns slower and cooler so you wouldn't burn up your engine....
but anyways, i've never touched the oil pump settings on yamaha's, maybe the richness of oil is a reason they go 10000+ miles on stock rings, while other manufacturers would be super lucky to get that from their engines.
if anything, i would turn it to use less oil a tad, but each sled is different
