I have a 98 mm600 with the smart carbs and my throttle response really sucks. I will get on the gas from idle or a little above idle and the sled falls on its face and then takes off. It has a brand new belt on it and the gearing is pretty low (only tops out at 60). Would this be a clutching issue or an issue with the engine itself?

first place i would start would be to clean the carbs. if they are clean and the problem still exists, you can run a series of diagnostics on the components involved with the smart carbs to rule out that. dirty/worn clutches can contribute as well. a little more description will aid in diagnosis.

I used reed spacer to help the throttle response!!! it helped a lot with the TR above idle, I still have a slight delay at base idle...

look in the tech pages, and do a search for mods for the 600 twin!!! Reed Spacers, Reed notch, Air Box, Head Gasket...... I think would all give you results your lookin for!!!

after you make sure your carbs are clean and plugs are good of course!!!

If its a twin the clutch needs to be serviced. They were hard on clutches.
I redid the clutches at the end of last season so i dont think that would be the culprit. Where can i get a set of reed spacers?

check the crank seals that happened to my 600 twin and it was getting to much air on one side and would just bog until higher rpms then it would take off try a leak down test
