Hey guys Im new. A buddy told me about htis site and that theres alot of good people here. Ive read al;ot of your posts and you guys know your stuff. So for my first post I guess Ill ask for advice. I recently was givin a 89? Exciter 570 electric start. This thing runs great but im wondering what i can do about suspension? The skis were hit so i got a like new pair from a SRV, the mounts were more narrow so i used a grinder and got them to fit. I dont usually cobble things, i actually take pride in my toys so i did a good job. Im 31 and havnet rode sleds in about 15 yrs. I ride a lot of atvs and dirtbike. I would liek to keep this Exciter for my wife and buy something newr for me next year but i want to fix it up nice for her. So again, i need help with suspension and anything else i should know about this, thanks

This is my 93 exciter II SX i put some 03 RX1 skis on it and steering is way easier, installed a polaris Xtra10 skid and that gave it the ride it should of had, an absolute cush ride. i also added 2 inches of seat foam when i had the seat redone for a little more cush and made a 1 1/2in handle bar riser with a solid piece of aluminum. i love this thing it never lets me down i can't see ever selling it and i'm into it for so little $700 for sled 5 yrs ago, $100 skis, $100 seat, $75 rear skid w/ fox shock and a couple bucks worth of rattle can paint.
heres a link to some flicker photos.

Moto, thats what im talkimng about. Id love to add the suspension and skis along with the bar riser. I used to bodybuild until i had an injury, so im not very little and need more cushin. If you could send me some tips in a PM on how to do the conversion i would love it. I might wait till spring to do it but then itll be ready next year. Also how did the skis bolt up? Im a decent mechanic but never worked on sleds. My freind has an srx and it is nice.

I'm not a small man either 6'2" @ 215lbs but the sled fits me way better with the extra seat height. i ride moto x style with my feet tucked under and slighty behind me and i used to twist my knees all the time and this solved that.

The skis required a small amount of cutting and ginding in the saddles to fit. i'll try to get some pics in the next few days as i have to replace the carbides anyway.

follow this link http://www.jbshocks.com/index.html and go to the TECH RELATED section it will tell you alot on what it takes to do a swap. its alot easier than you think but its just as easy to mess something up. when i did mine i had to trim about 3/16 inch off the width of the skid to make it fit without stretching the tunnel too much and its still snug. i altered my verticle mounting points on the rear but made sure all other distances were per spec off the web site. i made my own drop brackets w/ stainless but that was overkill and a pain to work with just use mild steel and i will get you the dimensions for them. i also had to cut some of the factory backer off and drill out some rivets to install the drop brackets.

the riser block is just a solid chunk of aluminum 2"W x 3"L x 1 1/2"H that i punched some holes in and slid between the POD bracket and the steering stem. there is just enough extra cable that i did not need to extend any of the wires or cables any longer and you will have to put in extensions.

the seat i brought into an upholstery shop and had them add 2 inches of foam and recover.

this should help ya get started... let me know if ya got any other questions.

making my own drop brackets gave me the ability to put the holes where i wanted without fighting other holes. i used stainless to fight rusting but it was overkill and a pain to work with.

Right. Good idea.I just finished mine and went exactly by the JBShocks diagram. Meaning my rear mounting point is in the tunnel. No drop brackets.

Well, first ride and the track was banging the top, long coolers. I tightened the track and reinstalled the stock Yamaha wheels in the top, middle of the tunnel and it cleared. But still, I might use a bracket and put it just below the tunnel like you did.

Maxx, you know you can put new shocks in your current skid. I'm not sure about the Exciter, but I could get Kimpex or Ryde FX for my Exciter II. But in the end it cost the same as buying a used Xtra 10 skid.
